Re: 9 bolt brakes
I'm going with C5 brakes for my 89 with the 9 bolt. I got the kit from big brake upgrade. I have pics of them on my 89 GTA refresh post. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...a-refresh.html

Re: 9 bolt brakes
"Most" upgrade kits will have new brackets. However, there are a few that may work w stock bracket

Re: 9 bolt brakes
If it's an 89 9-bolt, then its backing plates should be for the Performance Package ("1LE") PBR rear disc brakes, which was the upgrade for 3rdgens and considered desirable to most people. If that's what you have and want to keep, then 89-92 and the far more accessible 93-97 calipers bolt-on.
If it's the 85-86 9-bolt, then you should scrap those backing plates and upgrade to anything else, such as the 89 "1LE" backing plates (if you can find any), or C5/C6 backing plates (which BBU modifies, if he can still get them; they were discontinued a few years ago but may still be accessible).
LS1 rear backing plates require modifying the bolt pattern to fit a 9-bolt, which a couple of people have done. They used to be available only through junkyard salvage (used), but Hawk's had them reproduced. Again, the bolt pattern would have to be modified because there was no 9-bolt, only the 10-bolt.

Re: 9 bolt brakes
I have the 89 PBR plates from an 89 car I parted out a long while back and the original 89 rear from my car that was stolen.
I’ll look on the BBU site and look at the rear stuff when I get the 4th gen stuff.
thanks much.

3.70 axle ratio wasn't available in 89, so did you change/upgrade the gears, or was it a complete axle swap to an 85-86 9-bolt, which were the only two years that came with 3.70 and had the older style rear disc brakes?
