My engine bay (Start to finish) thread
I decided to do my entire engine bay to make it look nice. Here is about what I started with, the guy i bought the car from swap in a TBI engine with the worst wiring job i have ever seen. i cleaned up most the wiring, swap to a carb setup added a few bolt on's and that was it. the things that bother me the most is an unclean engine bay and undercarriage of a car. i was always to embarrassed to open my hood

Degrease and power washed

This is what a leaky master cylinder does

Hand sanding really sucks

Patchs for the firewall

Re: My Camaro (Start to finsh) thread

After welding who knows how many small holes i laid a thin coat of fibber glass down, and filled in all the factory stretch marks and over laps in the metal

I used a spray on most the metal

I changed my mind and shaved the wiring, and smoothed out the strut towers with fibber galss filler and then a thin coat of bondo

Set and ready for primmer/sealer

Re: My Camaro (Start to finsh) thread
It took me about 4 months to get to this point, spent about 2 days wet sanding and buffing out the bay, i refinished all the parts or bought new and then detailed them. I detailed everything even if it was hardly visible. if im going to make the bay look nice might as well spend the extra time and make everything look nice too! There will be more updates coming

firewall looks good. i see that you also welded up the holes on the fenders from where the tanks went. but why did you just paint that motor and put it back in there? gonna make it look good, make it go fast too!

i haven't decided on what engine i want to put in yet i have a few laying around like a ZZ4 short block that iv been hanging onto for sometime now, i ended up refreshed this one, put in a cam and did some small things to get me by till i decided on what i want to build but it is going to be a gen1 sbc since the car is already setup for one plus all the parts i just bought for it so i basicly have been sitting up a foundation for the next

i have the same problem with the brake fluid spilled all over, are you worried about rust coming back in that area?

Re: My Camaro (Start to finsh) thread
no not at all. i used a 2" sanding pad with 80 grit on an air power tool, then some other 2" disc from the assorted pack and went down to bare metal it took care of all of it, then just to be on the safe side i used a rust converter followed by a rust sealer....
and thanks for the complements

Re: My Camaro (Start to finsh) thread
Im glade i got the first set uncoated. they worked great for pulling in and out and mocking up where i needed to cut to clear some of the header primaries before dropping in my new jet-hot coated headers... i had to notch the k-member and both ears on the k-member where the lower control arms bolt to. it wasn't all that bad or hard. heres some pics,
enjoy!

enjoy!

those are hedman's right? i had mine coated and then had to modify the header on the driver's side. thinking of getting it re-coated, maybe along with the whole exhaust. how's that for not rusting!!!!

What a pain! so after i started to bolt these down there was another part of the a-arm mounting point i had to cut out and reinforce.... im all done though bit of work to fit the long tubes how i wanted but at least i wont have any dented primaries

That looks incredible! It's the same route I'm thinking of going and a similar color (I'm really liking the sunburst orange GM uses on the new vets). Do you work in at a body shop, have access to one or did someone spray that for you. Excellent attention to detail. Also, thanks for the heads up on the notching! Looks like I'll be busy!

Thanks! I don't work at a body shop or anything like that, i did everything even sprayed the base and clear, i set up a makeshift paint booth out of PVC pipe for the skeleton and used clear plastic to cover the bay making it fully enclosed. i taped all the seams and taped the plastic to the floor, cut a peace out of the sheet to mount a fitter and a vent hole for air to go out a side window in the garage i used a high rated CFM fan and pressurized the entire box (pushing air our not sucking it in) and keep the floor damp when i was painting to get whatever dust or over spray down. anyway the cars coming along i just have some wiring to wrap up and some other odds and ends, I'm currently work on the undercarriage
