Hooking up power antenna?
I pulled a power antenna from an Iroc 89-90 not sure which. My question is about installing it. There are 3 wires white, grey, and green. Im going to assume that green is ground but Im not sure, can any one shed some light on the situation for me.
I am trying to do the same thing with my 91 Trans Am. I am not sure how any of this works, but a couple guys have been trying to help. CHeck out this thread: "Need help with power antenna, please. " If you come up with anything let me know. I'll be talking to a Pontiac dealer today, so I'll get back to you.

Thanks for pointing me to your thread Ardels91TA
I've had this antenna sitting around for a while but if I remember there is a bolt from the support bracket on the antenna mast to the car body. Remove it then remove the retaining screw on top of the fender. This will let the antenna drop down. There will be a gig round rubber grommet that goes into the frame, it will take some effort but pull this out try using a flat head screw driver to pry it out. Now disconect the antenna wire from the back of the radio an cut the 3 wires as close to the radio so you'll have enough slack to hook it up to yours and your done.

I'm not sure where the wires should go to, but as far as removing the antenna goes, the wires were very tight when I had to pull mine to repair it. Absolutely no slack, so I had to cut them and splice them back together when I reinstalled it. Actually, check the wiring diagrams linked from the technical information. Maybe they show where to wire it to.

maverick,
The power antenna operates by kind of "reeling in" and extending a thin plastic shaft that is attached to the top section of the antenna. Over the years, that shaft gets brittle and can break. That was the case with mine (it happened to be stuck in the up position rather than down). Can you hear the motor for the antenna run, but it just doesn't move? If so, you'll need to get the repair kit from GM for this shaft I've been talking about. I can't remember the part number, but it might be in an old thread somewhere. If you can't hear the motor at all, however, your problem is going to be electrical rather than mechanical.
Hope that helps,
MikeS

I'm pretty sure I can't hear it, it use to pop right up when I turned the radio on, but now it doesn't. I'm going to listen to it when I get home. It also maybe the radio, which is from a camaro but is the same style, I'm going to see if the attena wasn't pulled or something.
