Alpine R12

hey guys, i hear the Alpine R12's are sweet. I want to get one, but i was wondering if they would be good for my application. I listen to mainly rock, but i like alot of techno and some (fairly smal amount) Rap. I want nice tight bass, is the R12 right for me? also, where do you buy these alpines? Haven't seen any one of the local shops i've been to carrying it, but i wasn't looking. Any help guys???

PS: how many watts Max and RMS are those subs?

The R12's would be perfect for you. I have two of them in the back of my car. I only listen to rock and a little techno(unless gf is in the car then a little rap) THey are, I believe, 300 watts RMS and 1000 watts peak. I have mine running off from a Orion Xtreme 500 and they sound very nice. They are also in a sealed enclosure.

Hope this helps.

pontiac, thats just what i wanted to hear! but a few more questions, first, how much for one? and second, will one bump???or should i buy a pair? i was gonna go with one, but ya never know, but it'll probably be the price that makes the deciding factor, but hopefully not. Box is no expense because i'm a decent craftsman. thanks

Personally, i've always liked the sound that two subs will give you, but there is a guy on the board that has just one twelve and he likes it. But I would go with two twelves. The cheapest I could find them, and *** knows how much I looked, was at carmedia1.com . They don't tell you shipping untill you get the bill in the mail, but it's very reasonable, can't remember how much. But I got the subs pretty quick. I'd highly recommend them. And you cant beat $119 for this quality of a sub!!

i think i'm that guy . i've got one R12 dvc and it hits more than hard enough to rattle the car, and its only getting 300 watts max (rms is 300). just bought a new amp to hook up to it and cant wait to try it out. put it in a nice box and it sounds wonderful. i hope to start competing for SQ this summer and this sub is clean, tight, and got some boom to play with (if necessary). i dont know if my car could handle two, let alone my ears. i listen to mostly rock, some techno, and little to no rap and this fits the bill. i bought mine for $130 shipped from ikesound.com

RMS at 300, max at 1000

hey guys i think i've made my decision now, thanks for your help! so i think i'm going to go with one sub to start, and if i need some more, i'll buy a second. sound like a good idea? also i have an amp question, i have a factory amp, and so there is controls on the dash (power switch, gain slider), can i use this with the aftermarket amp i buy instead of the stock one? and how would it get hooked up???? any ideas?
