simple box idea

Instead of making a box can I just lay a bord across the back cargo space and put my 2 Rockford subs in it facing up. How bad will it sound if it is not "sealed" box, onlt a board layed down over the ledges on each side??

thats what i thought, no big deal, I allready have a custom box i made sitting behind my front seats.
