A handful of years ago, I'd say definatly go for the 12s. But now some of the 10s out there are just amazing. Personally, I have 2 12s and I listen to both rock and rap. I think the 12s might rattle stuff a little more, I dunno, it's up to you.

my first instinct is to go with the 12's . I've heard both and honestly the 12's sounded better to me even on rock but the guy with the 10's says he has amp problems. I'll be gettin 12's. Thanks for the help folks

I'd have to say that it definatly depends on what brand/kind of subs you are looking at.

If you're getting Fosgates, get the 12's. 10's would be a little more accurate(rock), but the 12's would be louder(rap). Why not go for a really good single 12? A friend of mine is running an Earthquake dBX12 powered by a Rockford Power bd500.1. This set-up is about the same price as two rockford's and a good amp, and his car slams. It drops to 20Hz, which can't be said for a rockford sub, is very accurate, and will blow you out of the car at will. - Just put a good 1 farad capacitor in front of the amp.

First off how much do u want to spend. 12's are a more rounded speaker. Little slow on rock good for rap and such but quciker then the 15. persoanlly i perfer having all 3 kinds, then u set the amp to pick up what u want, most tones on 10" deeper on the 12" s then the 15" s kick in real low for that occational low boom. But to get back to the point. With your set up i would go with MTX's 3 speaker set up. IT's 3 10"6000 hookes in i beleive a series. Being 10"s in a sealed box they will git quick and tight, and when cranked up, having 3 of them will give you that extra bump your looking for on the rap. Search ebay to look at pics. i tihkn the 3 speaker set up runs from 299 - 399. Could be wronge there tho

From ebay:

2-IDMAX 12's $600-650

Then just look for a $400 amp that will make about 1200-1400rms. The Kicker KX1200.1 would prob be a good choice. A Hifonicx Zeus XI would work also. A friend of mine from school sent his to A2000 to get tested and it did something like 1800rms. Finding this amp for $400 may be hard, not sure how much they run.

2 12" idmax's with ~600rms going to them would make your ears bleed. They have tremendous output and one of the cleanest subs on the market.

But to tell you the truth, if you go with a sub like an idmax, adire brahma, DD 9512 etc, ONE sub would have enough output in a camaro to make you dizzy...

To tell you the truth I dont like either company, but JL will blow away RF's, but so will most speakers on the market.

Whoever told you 12's are for rap and 10's are for rock are full of crap. The ideal car audio system will reproduce sounds (ANY SOUND) as they are recorded. It does not matter what you listen to, that should have no part in the decision making when buying gear. Do you think manufactures make 10" subs that cost $10 less than 12's subs becouse the 12's are better? No, that price differance is simply material differances, if the bigger sub was always better than why make a 10"?

The truth is that 12" subwoofers usually move more air than a 10", this being said a 12" sub will usually be "louder" but becouse of the larger cone it needs more power to make it move as far as a 10" sub, so the 10" will usually be more efficiant and can usually move faster. The 12" can also usually hit a lower feq. than a 10" subs too. Therefore it is more of an SQ v. SPL war than a Rap v. Rock war. Go listen for yourself and choose what you like.

Through my experience, unless you're doing competition, more is not always better. The best sounding system I've ever heard was in my friends Toyota pickup that I designed. 1 RF 10" and a RF amp w/ plenty of juice; along with some high quality Boston Acoutics speakers to replace the stockers.

This system is music to the soul. It plays the rock and country with beautiful clarity and can handle the bass waves for the rap. What you really want to do is pick up all the levels of music, not just the deep waves:nono:

I listen to both rap and rock and I am going for 2 10" Polk Audio Momo's. They are a little expensive but since I work for Best Buy and my brother works for Circuit City I have connections for all of the stuff I am looking for. To tell you the truth it is completely up to you on what you are looking for. I have run 1 10", 2 10", 1 12", and 2 12" and the 12's just flat out pounded and I ran both JL audio and RF but I have ended up going with 10's because they just suit me a lot better than 12's do.

If you put two 12's in and dont want that much bass just turn the bass down, but it is nice that you have the two 12's if you want to shake the town.

What is a digital cap??????? You mean a cap with a digital volt meter????????Have 2 Punch 10's, They sound pretty good..Had 2 kicker 12's in my last thirdgen, and they too sounded great...Your box will make or break your system, along with proper wiring...I have used cheap amps in the past, and had good results when all other factor were up to snuff...Ran 8 Kicker 15's in my van, and tried lots of amp combo's with them from low power to hi power, and the box was more important (TO A POINT) then the amount of power they were hit with..And what the hell is a digital cap?????LOL.....Tom
