My amp is a solar powered meat thawer! Does it hurt it?

Hey guys,
After sitting in school all day in the heat, I cranked the system when pullin out of school today. But I could smell the stuff burnin in the back. It gets really hot from sitting in the sun UNDERNEATH my cargo cover. My amp gets hot, nothing else. When I crank it, it again gets hot. I wanna know how hot can it run before I start to hurt it. It gets hot whenever I fire up the car and the stereo is on, period. Its all hooked up fine, but its a 150.2 pushin 2 10s, it hits. Its at half gain, three quarters bass boost at 12db. Its wired in stereo at two ohms (2 ten inch DVC subs) It gets so hot that I burn my hand on it sometimes.

Most amps have thermal protection built in to prevent them from being damaged by overheating. So if it gets too hot, it may either shut off completely or reduce power output.

What gauge power wire are you running to it, 2 ohm stereo is alot of current, it should be ATLEAST 8 ga. but most likely needs to be 4 ga. What brand is the 150.2?

When an amp is currnent limited it will heat up more, and if your burning yourself on it I'd say that's WAY to hot! :nono: :nono:

heat kills electronics. There's no telling what temp will instantly kill it, but any temp will cause it to fail over time. Raising the average temp of an amp by 10* shortens it's life by half.

i met a guy once that put a small fan in his amp somehow. he said it worked good, it was like a 1000 watt amp and he said it stayed cool. i'm sorry but i have no idea how he did it, but it might be something to look into.................

you just buy a 12v fan and run it off the power circuit in your amp
