brahma 10 or 12?

ok im looking for an educating and enlightening answer.. not to just get the 12 simply because its bigger when comparing the specs from the website (Brahma Series), obviously the 12 has higher ratings in qms, vas, sd, etc.. however, the wattage rating is the same, as well as their linear throw.. and the 10 has an SPL of 84.5 vs the 12's 84.1 dBs.. so how is the sound going to compare? again, i would greatly appreciate an in-depth explanation of what the differences are going to be, rather than the cliche its-bigger-so-it-must-be-better that i hear so often.. thanks a million in advance!

The difference in the sound produced by the subs will be in the lowness of the bass. The 10s are going to be louder than the 12s in the aspect that they will have the capability of producing higher sound levels than the 12s. In essence the 10's aree going to produce a tighter more punchy bass responce because they do not have as large of a cone to move. The 12s however will produce a deeper sounding bass. You can deffinately tell the difference in the sound when you have both side by side to compare. Either one will sound very good and loud. It mostly depends on what type of music you listen to. If you listen to alot of rap then deffinately go with the 12s but if you listen to more rock then the tighter bass responce of the tens will sound just a touch better. Hope this helps

12"

I think you can find 0.9ft^3 airspace for it. lol With that box, feed it ~1200rms (JBL 1200.1 would be a good option) and you will be reaching Xmax.

probably no SQ difference, although it will sound a little different. There will be an SPL difference, how much of one I'm not sure. That whole saying that large speakers are slow and sloppy is a crock of crap when dealing with a good sub (like the brahma) and someone that knows how to tune a system.

definitely tuning makes a huge difference.. wasnt there a thread a few months back about how it would be impossible to differentiate between a 10 and a 12 (of the same company/line) if they were both tuned right? i dont remember exactly.. also, im curious as to why the 10 has a higher rated SPL (84.5) than the 12 (84.1), while the 15 has 85-something.. any clues?

i dunno, variations in design, usually the larger drivers are more efficient. Maybe the 10 they sent to DUMAX was a little more efficient than that avg or the 12 was a little less....but it doesn't matter. Its not possible to detect those very minor differences by ear, just by machine, and each sub will be slightly different than the next in line. Gotta love probability.
