You mean the plastic connector on the side of the alternator? From what I remember, one goes to the dashboard for the alternator light, and one goes to the ignition switch for the "yes, turn the charging circuit on" signal. Are you going to change them?? Might not be a good idea... it might be better to upgrade the power wire that runs from your alternator to your positive junction block (passenger side of radiator) to your battery. I'll do this eventually, but I'll skip the junction block. I'll go right from the alternator to the battery with 4 or 8 gauge, then run a normal wire back to the junction block.

The only thing that worries me is the risk of fire. But GM didn't fuse that wire, why should I? Because of risk of fire. Well, I can't decide now, but it's just another thing to consider.

easier to install than an alt?

A cap is a good band-aid, but you still need more current. So sometimes replacing or upgrading your alt is the only choice. A good alt for the money is the Powermaster lineup. It's the same alt's we use in most our show vehicles, and are reasonably priced.

Check out www.summitracing.com for one. Look at the 140 amp alternator. That should do the job.

Polecat, do you have any personal experience with that alternator from Summit? I've been wanting it for a while but I've heard that it's pretty over-rated.

Yep...I ordered the chrome 140 amp alt, and LOVE it. Man, in my old truck I could see the difference immediately. Headlights, electric fuel pump, etc was mucho better. Over-rated,I personally don't think so, I love mine for the investment.

I've actually heard from several different people that they have had many prob's with the Powermaster alt's.....but I cant say if they were just the unlucky few who got the bottom end of the bell curve or they had other electrical problems with the vehicle that killed them...just what I've seen.

I have seen nothing but very good remarks about Wrangler alt's.....but they are a lot more expensive than Powermaster...and all require external regulators.
