Are kick panels really that good?

Everyone told me that I should get kick panels and forget out the 4x6s. Are the Kicks really that good? From the pics I've seen they really don't point up at you like I thought they would. They still go sideways like the 6x9s do....

The tweet is pointed upward, and the distance between the kick panel and your ear is a lot further than the dash is from your ear. What that means is the ratio between left speaker and right speaker distances is closer than in the dash, for a more accurate sound stage. not to mention the added clarity of a component system versus a 4x6 coaxial.

Basically any kicks will take up legroom. You learn to live with the sacrifice because they sound so much better. However, your overall setup will dictate whether kicks will make any real improvement. For instance, running the same amount of power to a set of rear speakers will pull the sound too far back and ruin the imaging created by the kicks. Or, cranking the subs so loud that you can't really hear anything but bass defeats the purpose of investing in kicks.

Don't buy kicks because someone tells you to. Decide what you want out of your system, do some research and figure out the best way to acheive your goal. For me, kicks made a very big improvement over the crappy dash locations.

I think REZN8R pretty much summed it up. Moving up to kickpanels (or 4th gen Firebird Door Panels in my case) and a 5 and 1/4 seperate setup (instead of the 4x6 coaxials) will give you much better sound quality and sound staging.
