headunit help

hey, right know i have the stock gm cassette player in my car and i just bought an Alpine CDA-7893 headunit. i was thinking about installing it myself to save some bucks for other camaro needs. i know i need to buy a mounting kit but do i need to buy a different wiring harness to connect the new headunit to the old stereo wires? and where could i get a mounting kit and wiring harness online? thanks.

There are a few posts that talk about getting an aftermarket deck to fit flush. I seem to recall people always saying that you have to make a custom plate to fit around it, and there's something behind/below the dash that you'll have to cut/remove. I'm sure you could find it with a little searching, because quite a few people seem to have done it.

Thats the headunit that makes 60W, right? Don't forget that headunit needs a 10 guage power wire set to wire to the battery.

Wel, that is the same one I'm saving up for and in the Crutchfield catalog/website they require you to purchase this 10-guage power wire kit. Its like an amp wiring kit, where you have a heavy guage wire with inline fuse wired directly to the battery. Has to do with the internal amplification of the headunit that requires this connection.

Mine doesnt fit flush either. Its sticks out a bit but I dont really give a krap cause the stereo sux. Some wall mart krap That I bough from someone for 25 bucks. Well It playz cdz so Its cool with me. Also @ wall mart I was able to buy a harness that clips into the GM 80 something through 90 something. It clips right on the the one that is in the car. Then I just cut the clip off of the back of the stereo, matched up the colors and used electric tape to wrap each wire together. 10 minutes later then rock was playing. People really pay others to do this though? I though it was just a old wives tale. Well probably cause the wife didnt know shat. I hope your not a wife.

Umm, just get a harness adapter that mates your Alpine to an 82-92 GM harness. As for the 10-guage power wire, I'm not sure how it hooks up, I don't have the unit yet. When you get it hooked up let me know so I know what to avoid. Also, for more info, check the Crutchfield webpage for that headunit and you'll see what I have been talking about.

As far as finding the harness adapter, you should go back to the place/website yu bought the headunit from.

I dont know what crutchfield is talking about needing that 10 gauge kit. I sell car stereos at a local shop in town and ive never used a 10 gauge kit on any alpine units. now for your wireing and the dash kit go to circut city or best buy and the sell car wiring kits. its going to be metra, model # Met 801858 but check to make sure.
