the problem with getting a 6x9 to hit in a thirdgen is that unlike my 91 grand prix that hits decent even with stock speakers is that there is no airspace to create a decent amount of bass in the factorymounting location and to tell the truth I have had better results when I put a 6 1/2 speaker and made a plate to cover the rest of the hole in the rear speaker location despite the fact I know have alpine 6x9`s in my current car that is what I had around when I bought the car and the factory speakers were completly fried just choose a brand that you are comfortable with and you might want to try 6 1/2`s they are easier than you might think
I second the mb quart comment..i love mine. Eclipse sound nice too. I personall Have directed audio pro's, fairly cheap and do have a decent amount of bass. I would highly recommend them as good bang for the buck speakers.
yeah mb quarts are awesome, i have 2 clairion 4 inchers in the front, and 2 6x9 mb quarts in the back with no subs, i have a 380 amp going to them (i'll get a sub later) and when peopel get in my car they always ask where my sub is, they have great low to mid range sounds.

Infinity Kappa's Rock
I personally like Infinity Kappa's I plan to swich to 6.5s in the rear, when I get the money. Nothing against MB Quarts, I just like Infinity Kappa's :hail:
Both Alpine and Infinity are excellent choices. It's your own preference as everyone on this board will tell you, go to Best Cuy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, etc. listen and see what you like, them buy em.

I have Phoenix Gold 6 X 9's and they bump pretty good with a JBL 180.2 amp going to them. They are great for all around sound quality considering they are a 6 X 9...
Like was said before, nothing is gonna give you a real hard hitting bass but I personally like Alpines just cause I've had good experience and I know they're gonna last and last. Just check some out at stores if you can, but remember that our f-bodies just don't have great stock speaker locations.

Well, to be in complete honesty, it's really what kind of amp and deck you got. Make sure that you match up your ohms and have appropriate power, and almost anything should sound good. I got some kenwood 4-ways and they give off some good thump.

I really like my kenwood 6x9's, If you have a friend that has some, or know somebody, give them a listen. Does your local stereo shop have a listening station?

I got exellent results by mounting the 6x9"s in the cargo cover.....you will need a few jig saw blades to cut through that stuff, and take your time measuring and cutting. the cargo pit is the perfect "resonant cavity" for the 6x9"s. I also used a $50 pair of Kenwoods....at least they make nice speakers. I liked the Kenwoods, because they had reasonable quality (3-way) and enough cone travel to get a good "bump" with the right bass notes.
first, I powered them strait off of the Alpine deck, they sounded decent and many thought I had some kind of subs or amp in there somewhere. They really started to shine when I hooked up a 75x2 Alpine V12 amp and set the crossover at 100HZ HP...the 6x9s actually responded better with less distortion and harder hitting bass with the lows (<100HZ) cut out from the signal and the 75 watts rms for each speaker helped to keep that sound clean. (it was so loud I couldn't hear myself think) the most important thing is that it didn't crap out and sounded very good for the money I spent on it, I knew guys who spent 3x what I did and had it done by the pro's and it still sounded like garbage!
the 500/1 JL AUDIO and two twelves really thumped the bass....but that's another story.

hell man even Pioneer makes good 6x9's i have a set myself, and so far, i dont like the sound that comes out of any of the others, but its really not the name, its how you like to hear the music, its not that ones sucky, and ones better, its how it sounds to your ears
