help building a system

I recently bought a 89 camaro with no speakers/deck. I am going to buy a Pioneer PREMIER DEH-P740MP MP3 player deck. That leaves me with about $500 for the 4 speakers and amp. I have no clue what to get.

So if anyone can just tell me what speakers and amp to buy, I'll trust your judgement. Also, I listen to metal really loud....if that helps any at all.

thanks

I think your going to need more than $500 , lol. I honestly have no clue what you could get that is decent for only $500...perhaps a 12"alpine Type-R, a nice set of alpine 6x9's and a 4 channel amp to power it all. But Im an alpine fan, so I would suggest alpine. Its all personal preference really, go to a stereo shop and listen .

I dont think he's looking for a sub yet etc,

Heres what i'd start with:

REZN8R's kicks: $140 www.subenclosures.com

These in the kicks up front: $170
http://www.ikesound.com/Prod_Details.asp?Prod_Id=588

These in the rear: $135
http://www.ikesound.com/Prod_Details.asp?Prod_Id=595

And run them off the headunit till you can afford a good amp, and maybe till after you have a sub / amp.

Total $445 and you should have some very nice sound.

Personally I would hold off on the amp and go for good quality speakers ... build your system slowly thats normally how you get more for the buck. Look around for specials.

Good speakers are normally Alpine, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Infinity, and Bose.

Do some research on the speakers for what suites you and your needs.

Also check around for online stores for pricing and specs.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help,

Ok then, I'll hold off on the amp for later. I guess the real question would be how do I match up the speakers and amp? Does the power/ohms numbers actually mean anything? Or will the speakers that Z28racer suggest work well with or without an amp?

Thanks

The ones i suggested will work good with your head unit or an external amp.

Z28racer suggested a spectacular system for you, and the great thing about it is that its very upgradable in the future by just adding an amp here, a subwoofer there.. and it'll sound great the entire time. one thing tho, have you thought about putting an alpine or maybe a kenwood cd player in, instead of a pioneer?

THanks Z28racer....I'll order those speakers.

The reason for the pioneer mp3 player is its the best one i've found for the money. I also looked at alot of reviews. I'm picky about the mp3 player features. Is there any reason I shouldn't get it?

thanks for all the help.

ive just never had good experiences with pioneer.. but granted, i havnt used anything by them in 3-4 years. alpine and kenwood make spectacular head units, with a superfluity of controls, 4v preouts, etc etc.. if you havnt looked at those 2 brands, i'd highly recommend at least checking them out before making your decision

just be warned that if you get the speakers and no amp, since you said you like to listen to LOUD music, you might get a little distortion. they hu isnt going to take those speakers to their full potential. they will sound good, but once you get the dough to get an amp, they will really shine. good luck.

If you like playing your system LOUD, get an external amp. I was running my speakers off my headunit all the time and I'd always get pissed when I wanted it louder but it would distort. When I got my JBL 4 channel amp, I was very happy

here's a few pics of my system: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=147934

I made my kickpanels so I saved quite a bit of money (also, buying online saves A LOT too). On the bottom I have a list of my speakers, I paid roughly $200 for all 4 because I bought them all online (brand new). The pioneers I have are amazing for the price. I bought most of my stuff from www.bsless.com . I havent had any problems at all with them, their prices are the best I've seen anywhere, and havent had any problems with the things I bought.

Buy your headunit at a store, because that would be the first thing to give u a problem, but everything else I'd suggest buying online, it saves a ton of $$$

a lot of people seem to really like the new JBL amps. their 80.2 or 80.4 would be sufficient for most cars. you can get the 80.2 for less that $100 bux.

other amps are kicker, mtx, alpine, rockford, kenwood. stay towards the name brand stuff and away from brands like pyramid, rockwood, and pyle (of crap... ) good luck

I agree with Z28racer's recommendation of Infinity Kappa speakers....they sound awesome, and as mentioned earlier, you will be **** happy when you hook up an amp to them. I also personally like the Poneer decks, they offer a lot of flexibility in tuning your sound. Only prob. I have with mine is that the sampling rate is weak, so it skips fairly easily. But then again, my deck is five years old, so they should have addressed that problem by now. Go with the Kappas, then keep an eye out for amps at places like pawn shops. There are four military installations in my town, and a lot of pressed-for-cash GIs pawn nice stereo stuff, that you can pick up for not a lot of coin. Any reputable shop will ensure that the amp works before you buy it, and you can have some power in your system until you have the money to drop on a new subwoofer/amp combo. Good luck on your system.

You want an amp to push them I'd try the Hifonics Z4400. Hifonics are one of the top sound quality amps. It's rated 55x4 and was rated best out of 2 other top SQ amps in I think it was Car Audio and Electronics magazine but I might be wrong. If you go with Z28racers suggestions on IkeSound...they have this amp for 220 bucks. That's not bad for a high end amp. You cant go wrong with it...im getting it myself. Good luck man

I like my memphis, check around on ebay for em, should be able to get a nice pair at a good price, they are relatively small too.
