waterproofing speaker box
waterproofing speaker box
I was wondering if anyone would have an idea on waterproofing my rear subwoofer box. I have a leak thats driving insane trying to find so I figured let me waterproof it just to be safe. Think Thompson's water sealer would work?

okay let me understand this better you have a leak in your hatch window? if i were you i'd take the box out all together and fix the leak that way your not damaging anything in the box or even the box itself but that's just what i would do i wouldn't sacrafice my bumps because i've got a leak i'd fix the leak then drop the bumps back in.

I have to agree. Get the box out till you fix the leak. Don't waterproof the box! Fix the leak! DOn't be lazy.

Yup. If you don't fix the leak, you're going to have so much mold on that box that you'll have all sorts of problems.
I had an awful hard time finding the hatch leak on my GTA, until I finally took the hatch apart and discovered that there was no gasket between the glass and the painted metal "trunk" panel. I fixed that and it's been dry as a bone since.

Now as far as me being lazy I don't think so. I just have not been able to find the leak and since its cold out and I have no access to a hose it's nearly impossible to find the leak.

If it seems to be leaking right above the spare tire well it is probably the rubber weather stripping itself, or it may even be the seams where the two metals meet. Either a new weather stripping will help, or maybe just cleaning off teh bad seam sealer and replacing it with some new stuff will fix your problem..HTH

No problem Kaz, it's just that my wifey nags me all the time with, even though I wake up at 5:00 in the morning to go to the gym then get in at work at 8:00 to 5:00 pm, then work part time 3 more hours add to that another hour and a half posting stuff on ebay and she still calls me lazy.
