def upgrade. Having a better batt will never hurt you. I have a red top in my car. It's great with the system as far as drain is concerned.

are you talking about playing your stereo with the car running? if so, a better alternator--not a battery--will alleviate your problem. better (or more) batteries will allow you to play your system for longer with the car turned off (when the alternator isn't supplying VOLTAGE ), but for while the car is on a higher output alternator is probably what you're looking for.

oh okay, yeah when i was coming home from work tonight thats when it kinda got low like at the 13 mark on the camaro gauge but normally its about 1/4 of an inch above the 13 on the gauge.

should i just buy a brand new AC DELCO alerternator from the dealership? or could i just use a new one?

it doesnt sound like you really have a big problem there. a cap would probably do the trick. 0.5-1.0 Farad should be plenty fine. also, i agree w/ ssaudio, a batt upgrade would not hurt a bit. and as mud said, a alt upgrade will not hurt. any of the 3 would satisfy what ails ya.

I would look into an aftermarket 140 amp alt. I have not beed to impressed with the durability of a gm unit with a decent system in it. For $100 from summit look for an Iceburg conversion kit, I think thats the name, anyway I have one and had no problems.

1982chevycamaroz28 Have you ever thought of a second battery with a isolater to charge both batteries? Just a thought.

two batteries will increase the load on the alternator, and give you more voltage drop problems--great for playin your system when the car is off, but more strenuous when the car's running.

Actually the isolator only allows one battery to charge at a time. If you hook up two batteries by them self then yes it would be bad for the alternator, again that is what the isolator is for.

But it still has another load to deal with. True its not at the same time, but it is another load and will not help with small voltage changes.

Somewhat true. But you run the car off one battery and the system off the other. I ran a system in a 90 Cavalier Rs with over 2000watts and 1. 15" and 2. 10" off this setup for 2 years worked great. I hit 152dbs on the spl at the last show I did. Mind you I was running a .5 farad cap but with what I was running well... Pheonix Gold loved me for a little while. Don't really matter to me though cause I'm into Horse Power now that I am older. Try what ever you want . Everyone has a opinion on these types of topics...the question is...who is right! Put it this way many girls Loved to ride in the back! If you know what I mean.

By the way nice Monte!

I just bought a Optima yellow top, I hope it's all it is supposed to be. I'm still probably going to have to upgrade my alt. I'll be running 3 amps with around 1200 watts total.
