88 Firebird Delphi XM radio Install
Hey, i have an 88 firebird with a pioneer din and a half deh-p47dh
https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/P...29,517,00.html
I just purchased a Delphi Skyfi xm reciever for it, and i was wondering if anyone has done an install similar to this in a third gen? I have looked on some of the xm boards but most of these units seem to go into brand new cars. Any tips on antennae placement?
Thanks for all your help,
Mike

How do you like that Pioneer head unit? I'm thinking of getting it's bigger brother the P77DH for my car. Was installation easy?

I like it very much, fits perfectly. I didn't need the preamp inputs, so i opted for the 47, but i'm sure you will be happy with the 77. I got my xm unit today, and i REALLY like it, i have it hooked up to my xm boombox, so i am in the house, but i get perfect reception right here in my room full satellite, and terrestrial bars. SOUNDS SOO GOOD. I highly recommend it. I may have another unit to offload, so if you are interested pm me.

Just curious about where you mounted the units and antennae and what kind of options i have in those areas, if you have pictures that would be great, my email is mullrich@sandiego.edu.
thanks for the help,
Mike
p.s. did you use a direct connector such as a pie cable or where they rf installs?

Has anyone been able to hack XM yet and enable the receivers? Kinda like guys do with the satellite TV boxes?

as far as the ant. goes you want a 6 inch ground plane around the base if its a roof mount (the one that comes with the car kit. If you go with a differant ant. i.e. glass mount you simply line up the outside ant. with the inside reciever and run the cable. As for the roof mount you can center it on the roof and run the cable under the weatherstripping and then down under the headliner to the plastic around the sail panels. Then you run it under the side trim up to the dash. The display/control unit you can mount wherever you want to, personal preferance. Sorry no pics , I do the install so often that I never take pics.
