LCD screen opinions
I've been looking at putting a screen in my car for a while now. I'm thinking of doing some sort of custom fiberglass under the middle A/C vents to hold it. Has anyone mounted one in the same place? Any better places?
Also, what brands do you guys like? I've heard Nesa is supposed to be good. And I read somewhere that they are made by starvision, are they any good?
Finally, what size should I get? Is a 7" really necessary to see what's going on? I'll probably be using it for dvd and PSone. I don't want to have to go huge unless I have to.
Thanks, Joe

i have a pioneer screen, well head unit, but anyway, most of the cheaper screens arent what they call (i think) active display, this means the picture looks like very poor quality unless your looking at it straight on, whatever screen you do buy, make sure you can see the same type function first and look at it from several angles, go to circuit city and look at thier displays, only very few screens will keep quality at all angles, I know Pioneer does. just my 2 cents...

i have the 7" widescreen, its great, i think its the perfect size, ive seen smaller and i cant stand it after having mine. for movies and everything pioneer makes great quality, much better than kenwood or clarion units i have seen, they are a decent amoutn of money but well worth it. In the future i'm putting in a 13" flip-down LCD screen on the back section of the roof behind the ttops to fold down to face out of the hatch for shows..not practical i know but will turn a lot of head when i have the hatch up and a movie or video game on.

Have you considered mounting a flip down screen near the rear view mirror? Great for viewing angle and also not visible to casual passers-by.
I saw another guy on the boards who has one flush mounted on the dash.

I was considering a flip down unit, possibly under the middle A/C vents. It just seemed to me it would be more cost effective to get one of the head rest units and fiberglass it into the dash. Does mounting it near the rear view mirror cause any visibility problems?

I just installed a 5.6 " TFT Myron & Davis LCD monitor hooked up to a boss DVD/MP3 player, and IMO looks great.
I'm going to add a tv tuner to my sistem soon.
Let me know if you want to see some pictures of the picture quality of the screen

um, well i watch DVD's or play Xbox at car shows and while hanging out with friends in parking lots. But i also do have it set up so i can watch movies while driving, my girl likes it on long trips, gives her something to do. but no, it does not distract me, i still pay full attention to driving when i have something playing

I decided to get one because I had a rather traumatic experience. I went to go get dinner and I realize that I'm sitting at a red light at 7 p.m. And the Kings game starts at 7 I realized then that there was no solution but to put in a screen and tv tuner in my car so it couldn't happen again.

O.k. guys, it looks like the moment of truth is getting near. I just bought a PS2, which means the PSone has nowhere to go but the car. Does anyone know what the resolution of the PSone is, I thought it was 640 x 480. If so, would I be best off getting a screen with that resolution? I think about 90% of the time that's what it'll be used for. I'm gonna hold off on dvd for now. Most of the screens I've seen have a resolution of 234 x (varies with screen size, but for the 7" it was 1440). Does that sound about right? What resolution would I need for watching TV?
As far as brands, I've primarily been looking at starvision and nesa. I'm trying to do this for as little as possible, since I'm spending about $2500 in the near future on paint/body work. But I don't want to buy something that I'll have to replace in 6 months cause it looks like crap or broke.
Thanks, Joe

O.k., it looks like it's down to these two. Any additional opinions would be great. Thanks, Joe

I like the second one better plus its probably more rliable even though the eBayer has 99% positive feedback. The company also probably ships a little quicker. Thats my .02
