Power Antenna not fully extending

Hey on the 90 Formula with a stock sound system, the power antenna only goes about halfway up, and stays there until you turn it the radio off. I still get good reception, and you don't notice anything besides how tall the antenna is. Is this anything to worry about?

Reminds me of a situation I had some time ago: My ant didn't go up all the way either (but mine was only lacking a couple of inches), and like yours the reception was fine. Long story short, in fiddling with it, I managed to break it altogether. The GM replacement was around $100, if I recall correctly. You might consider leaving well enough alone.

Damn and I just broke it off the other day and removed it because It snaped when I was trying to bend it back so It would go down all the way Oh and can I just cut the wires from the power antenna or what?

well...i have an 89 trans am, and when my antenna motor went bad, was constantly on, and the antenna was always up i had to disconnect so it wouldn't drain my battery...what i did was i went under the passenger side kick panel in the front, and just clipped the wire...i can't remember off hand what color it was, but that stopped the motor from running, it's a bi*ch to get to that antenna wiring any other way.

Couldn't you simply disconnect the relay to the antenna instead of clipping the wire?

The GM power antennas were famous for that; the "fishing line" nylon cable snaps, and the motor just spins.... sort of like how the pull-down hatch motor breaks!

Yeah, he could've disconnected the 3-pin connector at the relay.

My power antenna was dead when I got my car. Snapped it in half when I drove "off road" in a park, underneath a low-hanging tree branch. Heh... I thought I was cool going under the low branch, because, you know, my car would fit underneath. I totally forgot about the antenna.

Anyway, I threw the pieces out and put up a regular 'ol mast antenna. I've never been happier! I cut the wires off under the fender. My power antenna relay now turns on my car amps (patched it into the 3-wire connector, off the relay- the same connector that the antenna came off of.)
