Weird Problem

I just installed my new Pioneer head unit today and it being my first time doing this i wasnt sure if i was doing it right. After I was done I noticed that I must have done something right cause i was hearing music. Now the problem is I only hear music when the plastic connector with all the wires is only pushed in halfway to the head unit. When its pushed in all the way, there's power to the unit, but no sound...
Any thoughts to something I might have done wrong or should double check??

once the conecter is all the way in are you pulling anny wires t otightly, if so they may not be all the way connected. also, if your decl is used you may want to try cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser or alcohol/qtip. used units often have a thin layer of dirt on contacts, my dad was about to throw away his old kenwood cause it would not work anymore, i cleaned the contacts on faceplate, good as new.

hope this helps
