Its been a long time since i posted on this board since i lost my first t/a in a accident.but im getting a 89 gta soon and i already had this idea of removing my back seats to put half a wall with 12's and still have my trunk...somewhat for my amps.i work in a car audio shop and maybe some of u know my boss from spl competition 3 yrs ago.i have a pic of his 80 cutlass with ttops that i wanna copy.take a look..8 12's hittin 155 db.

Go for it. If I didn't have car seats in the back I'd consider doing something like that.

I had 8 8's in a Nissan Pulsar in a wall back in like 92. That was a blast. Nothing beats turning around and seeing a mountain of subs doing their business.

Anyway go for it. The trunks of these cars are easy to tap out so you might as well rip out the seats and start filling up that area

forget that! Put in a full wall(you would still have your trunk) and put in like 16 of the subs!

Well if i do decide to build it,i will make the correct port for the subs.and i dont want a full wall cuz id like to still see out of my hatch. This box design works very well so id like to try it.my trunk i think id like to put 2 usa2000x's back there since i have 4 left,im also thinking of using a pioneer p9 deck and processor, dvd and flipdownscreen.eventually i want my car to be the next sponsored car from the shop i work for since the cutlass has been used and abused.im good with makin fibreglass box's and any other custom parts so its not hard for me to make this all work and still look good.the subs im thinkin of using are alpine type r's or rockfords he2's 12's.these are some ideas i have for the future and hopefully i can start this project in winter.im currently workin on a 89 s10 for spl and its gonna run 4 18's.its got a 350 sbc,3 220a alts,no rear suspension or wheel wells so that the whole cab can be used as box space,32 batts.should hit some good numbers so look out for that next yr.this is the shop i work for www.chase-audio.com thanks for your opinions guys

In that car 16 subs would be a waste. you could achieve way more SPL with 2-4 subs a big box and huge ports.

How big is the total air space you have? Also do you want it to play music or just be loud? Those installs on your site look very nice

another thing to note about our cars is that they are not very spl oriented. our cars will hit a limit, especially because of our door setup. because we have no upper door (the part where the window would slip into on other cars) allows for air to escape way too easly. ever try pulling your window outward when it's rolled up? its too easy to do it. now think how much pressure is created in an spl car. you also tend to see much better scores on cars with only a pair of subs, because you have less to adjust, tune, and get dead on. 6+ subs is just asking for problems, especially when you start playing with ported. ported boxes are a bit more picky when it comes to being exact, unlike sealed. and with that box, now you're getting into cancellation issues with angles, distances, and # of subs. if you wanna take it on, more power to ya. to get enough air space, you'll deffinately need to do some glassing as well as mdf and will have to be very creative with finding the space.

Thanx for sharing and im well aware of the flaws of our cars and of the box choice and # of subs im thinkin of using.i can be very creative with glassing and mdf its my job.im not trying to make this an spl car by all means, but it will be loud and decent enuff to play good music.i have several programs to calculate port size and air space needed,is making it fit in the car that will take me time but ill get it done.and yes tuning will be a bitch..wont be dead on but close enuff.the last transam i built had 2 vega stroker 15's in it and on the old mic system it hit 160 in a ttop car full wall.thats impressive..alot of work and it we could seal it more it would be great.i cant wait to get started on this,it would be different and loud,i can get a pair of image dynamics horns that might have to be thrown in there also somehow.im only 20 but i can do alot with glass mdf and some body.. anything is possible.thanx for responding guys im learning lots from the experts
