What to look for in speakers for a 3rd gen
What to look for in speakers for a 3rd gen
Hey guys, I'm not much of an audio guy but I managed to pick up a Pioneer DEH-P8000R that a friend no longer wanted. (Free is always nice).
Anyhow, my current system is 100% stock. Has the factory tape deck and speakers. I was told that I need a specific type of speakers to fit the stock mounting points (shallower?). Can anyone fill me in on this? I'd like to set up a decent system to go with the head unit.
Nothing serious, just my daily driver. But I like to listen to my
music clear and loud. Mostly hard rock and alternative.

Alpine and Polk 6x9's are the 2 brands suggested to me for the rear. I have the Alpine in and is sounds great and there was no problem with room. The front speakers are a different story. I am not sure about specifics for them but i know there isn't alot of room.

I agree....you simply can't go wrong with Alpine. But personally I love Kenwood's receivers and speakers. They're a bit cheaper than Alpine and quite comparable feature-wise.
You should check out your local Best Buy or Circuit City and listen to some various speakers there....because at the heart of it is opinion. Some people like Camaros and some like Accords, some like Pioneer and some Rockford Fosgate.
Well, you get the idea.

Wow, you got that headunit for FREE?? I'll take two!
Anyhow... damn I'm jealous ...ahem. Ok, let's see. There are two speakers in the front. Any 4"x6" component speaker or plate speaker will work fine, but you will probably run into depth problems on the driver's side. There isn't a lot room in there, so try to avoid any speakers that are excessively deep.
There are also two rear speakers in the sail panels on either side of the rear seats. These hold 6"x9" speakers, or any size speaker with an appropriately sized mounting plate (6"x8", 6" round, etc). Most any depth speakers will fit.
And that's about it, unless you have the Bose audio package from the factory. That's a whole different story, but it's rare, so I'm guessing you don't have it. Good luck!
