Late model GM CD players........
I am interested in finding out if a newer model CD player from a Gran Prix will fit and work in an 86 T/A? I can get one with EQ for nothing from a friend, but I know little to nothing about car audio and need to know if it will work and if I'll need anything else for it?....

radio is a radio. At most, you're just going to have to wire up an adapter. Mounting might take a little creativity, but physically it should fit.
The newest style GM radios with the speed-sensitive volume are VERY clean radios, and when you use a good quality line output converter, can sound very good.

Depends on the year of the Gran Prix. I have traded the factory AM/FM radio from a 93 Cavalier to my 87 with no problems, except that was when my stock radio took a crap on me, I bought an aftermarket CD player, and un-hacked the hacked wiring in there to put in the new headunit. I am not totally sure about this, but if you are just switching stock radios, you shouldn't have that much work to do other than to switch the mounting brackets over from one to the other.

It should work, but it all comes down to what year this GP's radio is??? If it is before 2000 then the only problem you may come across is unlocking the theftlock which isn't too bad to have doen, but if it is newer then 2000 these radios are vehicle specific to the VIN # within the ECM and Smart box. So if it is too new it will not work for you as your car cannot except this type of system. HTH's??

If the connectors on the back are not the same, you'll have to wait until you can get the harness for the headunit from a similar car.

Guys.. this is a factory stereo from a 99 Grand Prix. So no it doesn't have RCA outputs. Mind you Jensen and a couple of other companies sell high pass adapters, but....

Actually, Jensen makes an adaptor for their amps for a situation like this. It's called a High Gain input connector and I am not using mine at the moment, becuase I have a different setup. However, this is only for Jensen amps, but the setup I am using is with standard speaker wire with RCA terminals crimped on the ends to connect into the amp (I used this because I had originally connected my amp to the stock headunit that did not have the preouts, and did not remove them when I put in the new headunit(s)).
