antenna replacement...how the heck?
Hey everyone. I have a quick question that someone can probably answer easily. I need to replace the antenna on my 87 TA... I got the whole mast/wire assembly and I want to swap it out. Does anyone know how the heck you get the old one out...and how the heck you get the new one in? Ive done it before on other cars, but today I tried and couldnt see how you get to the bottom of the mast to get it off the fender. Let me know what the deal is with that. Thanks
Justin

Are you talking about a fixed Antenna Assembly? If so.. have a look at this.. It should help.
Click here for a picture of the Fixed Assembly
It is 1024x1257 180K in size

Is there a site where someone has done this and taken pics or at least written an article? Is there something else I need to remove?

I as well can't get in there, and I want to put my power antenna in!
Also, my Pioneer deck (famous for the SuperTuner...) gets REALLY crappy reception!

on my bird... you had to use an 'Antenna Removal Tool' (or two screw drivers...)
take off the black nut from the base of the antenna, (on the outside of the fender)
now the antenna will wobble around... you need to reach under the fender... or pull it altogether
I can pull my fender in about 10 minutes... is that a good, or a bad thing?

Reaching under the fender doesn't work for me. When I take off the wheel well, I can't even see the underside of the antenna mounting apparatus. I can't even stick my hand up there far enough to touch that area.
How many bolts need to be removed to take the fender off, and where are they? Pics of this would be much appreciated, and a 10 minute job sounds perfect

to pull the fender.
1. reach up into ground fx, there are two bolts holding them to the fender... also one bolt holding the gfx into air dam
2. 3-4 bolts holding fender to front clip, you just need to reach up through with a good flexible socket
3. there are 2-3 bolts on the GFX that runs along the door... this is directly underneath the antenna....
4. then the obvious bolts on the hood area, and you're all set
(sometimes you need to remove the hood, but there are ways around it)
it will probably take you 45 minutes, and I'd see if maybe you could just remove SOME of the bolts and bend the fender to get to the area you need....
like JUST remove the upper fender bolts in the hood area, and peel back the fender just enough to get your hand in.

incredible, i just had the same problem. it was terrible, a 20 minute max job, took 2 days and a ton of tools. in the end i cut the old antenna base off with a dremel tool. from there it wasnt that bad just the wiring, but who would have thought such an easy thing could be so difficult. so that what i reccomend, just cut it and start over
