Little help please, speaker changing

alright, i want to completely redo the stock speakers. But i've read about clearance problems in the Firebirds on the dash speakers. I dont want and different speaker locations, just the stock ones. I was thinking about some infinity reference or kappa speakers for the front, seen here

Now has anyone done this before with these speakers? If so how do they sound, and was there any modifacation needed?

Next i want to change my rear 6x9s and i was kinda thinking some infinity reference spekaers also. Seen in the pic below,

Has anyone done this before, how did it sound, i know they will fit though.

Also one more question, the padding around my rear 6x9s isn't flush with the metal all the way around, is it supposed to be or what? I kinda though it should be sealed as well as with a subwoofer.

I work at circuit city now and i can only get what they serve because i get the employee discount and its pretty much 50% or more off. So i love that. So if you can recomend better products to replacet hese please tell me.

thanks in advance,

shane

Does you bird have air conditioning? if not.. they you shouldn't have much in the way of problems at all with the front speakers..
I replaced the fronts in mine with two-way pioneers, was just a drop em in and wire em up.. as for the rears.. if you use those, make sure the mid & tweeters do not sick out higher than the speaker bracket.. as you will notice when you go to put the factory cover back on, it will hit the speakers. What I did to mine to over come that was to cut out the grill material in the panel.. the draw back with that is it put the speakers at risk of damage. By anyone in the back seat.

I think it will.. I have heard of guys needing to slightly modify the duct work in the front to allow the speaker to fit.. I've never seen it done.. so I do not know how hard it would be to do.

There's a tech article on this website that gives step by step instructions in mounting that style speaker in a firebird, including all necessary modifications.

Remove the grills and take out the redundant plastic grill underneath too. Leave the two supports. Then put the cloth back over. Artist spray mount adhesive will hold it on. Removing this barrier really opens up the sound in the fronts. Grills are never good for sound anyway. My speakers sounded better in the front afterwards. By the was the ducting is a pain but it is pretty easy to remove the pad to check for clearance. Or since you work at the CITY let the install guys worry about it. They probably have a fitment guide in the shop too.

I just installed those infininty 4x6s in my Camaro about a week ago. I had to take out my instrument cluster and remove some plastic from the drives side. The pass. side went in just fine. They sound really nice powered by my Alpine 1813 receiver, now I'm just waiting to get the money to buy the Kappa 3 way 6x9s and then the Kappa 4x6s rather than the Reference. I don't know if that'll help since you have a Firebird but they are worth cutting up some plastic you'll never see again.

CC huh?

if you work at circiut city then they can prolly fix you up and if they give you lip tell them you dont care and do it any way, but whatch them so they dont rip you car up in the process, , about the infinitys if you plan on no subs get the polk db series cc just got this new series in stok and i love them the 6x9's rocked my world and i got a set of the 4x6's up front now, if you want go to my site and see how i fit mine in the dash or cheap, prolly diiferent from the firs bird but you wont know till the dash is off, i think my solution will work any way, see speaker fittment here

if this fails to help you try similar tactics or do numerous searches on this site and other camaro sites, and most def look at the tech article mentioned above, acticles on this site are very worth while to read, they have had much reseach and many people working to get those written up, i love them articles!
