stereo constantly skips

What is the best way to keep a cd head from skipping when driving over rough roads. I have an audiovox rampage head that has a mounting kit that is glued into the original spot. I have tightened the head into the metal sleeve as much as it can go, but it still skips on most all road bumps. My jeep has a panasonic head that never skips no matter how bad the roads are. The head in the jeep was professionally installed so i dont know if they used any kind of pading around the head. I installed the one in my camaro myself and just put the head into the sleeve. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Unfortunatly, if your CD player does not have good skip protection, then you're out of luck. The hu sits right above the drive shaft - and obviously, get a lot of impact when you're driving. When I first purchased my car it had a Sony HU, and the thing did nothing but skip. I put in my Kenwood KDC-MP8017 and never had a problem. << One of those hu's can be found on eBay for ~75.

i think it might be your particular HU...audiovox isnt known to be on the high-end of the spectrum.

As F-BodyFanatic said some of the cheaper kenwoods are excellent for skip protection, and the lower end pioneers are very very good aswell.

That’s your problem. A CD player’s ability to resist skipping comes almost entirely from the mechanical construction of the CD mechanism. The cheaper HU just don’t have the ability to dampen the shock that the unit will get hit with, add to that a weaker laser and it’ll skip with the lightest tap. The Pioneers and Kenwoods are great at resisting skips. I like the Pioneer’s mech. a little better, the floating portion of the mechanism is a little heavier and seems to do better with shock. The optical pickups also use bigger magnets witch help keep the lens in one spot when the rest of the unit is shaking. Look into getting one of them.

And actually, Pioneers are known for resisting skipping.
