questions about wiring

ok, i found a wiring diagram on the bazooka website, but i have a couple of questions about it.

1) for the wire that needs to be hooked directly to the battery....how do you connect it to the battery and how do you run it from the interior compartment into the engine compartment?

2) ground wire...where do most people connect this?

3) in the wiring instructions, it says you can hook the turn-on wire to the turn-on wire from the HU, so i guess whenever the HU turns on, the sub turns on.....how do i connect it? i only know how to splice wires if you're connecting 2 ends, not if you're splicing into the side of a wire

4)the RCA plugs coming out of it....so i buy an RCA patch kit, and that connects the plugs from the sub to the pre-outs of the HU?

5)why is there 1 high-level output (-) and 1 high-level output (+), but there is 2 sets of high-level inputs (2 - and 2 +)?

6)the positive and negative inputs from the sub....in the directions it said to connect them to the speaker outputs of the HU....are these speaker outputs simply the wires running to all the speakers?

7)and lastly...how do you run wires from the HU to the back of the car? do you somehow run them behind the dash to the sides of the car, and then run them along the sides to the back? how the hell do you run the wires from the HU over to the side of the car with so little space behind the dash to work with?

edit: 8)seriously lastly....when i'm connecting wires end-to-end, should i crimp or solder?

this link is where i got my info from..if you're not quite sure what i'm asking, this page explains what each wire is for, it's just that i didnt understand everything they said:

Red gets ran up to the battery along with the turn on wire(orange)The turn on wire goes to the turn on wire from your head unit.

Black gets bolted to the body of the car, make sure its a nice and clean spot free of rust and paint, sand it if you have to.

The rca's get ran to the head unit along the other side of the car away from the power and turn on wire.

The high level inputs are their so you can connect the tube even if you have a factory head unit or one with no rca outputs.

Tape or cap the ends of the unused wires so they wont touch anything and enjoy.

You can run the wires inside the trim panels and under the door sills. Theirs a hole in the drivers side firewall that you can put the wire going to the battery though, Their may be a rubber boot in the hole you can poke through it with a screw driver.

Btw put some silicone or a rubber gromit (sp?) around the hole in the firewall so the metal doesnt wear on the wire and cut it eventually.

Also soildering is the strongest but crimping is fine also.

i know how to connect 2 ends of wires, but how do i connect the end of one wire into the side of another? like for the turn on wire, it needs to be spliced into the HU turn on wire, but i'm not connecting the wires end-to-end so i'm not sure how you do it

and where in the back hatch area do most people run the ground to?

and i know the red wire goes to the positive battery terminal, but how does it connect to it? is there some kind of adapter you can attach to the end so it fits over the positive terminal post underneath the positive battery cable?

Your radio should have a separate turn-on lead; it might also be labeled as a power antenna activation wire.

But in general, to splice into the side of a wire, you cut the original wire in half. Then strip all 3 ends. Join them in a "Y" pattern. (Slip a length of heat shrink over the single wire in the "Y" shape). Solder the joint, then slide the heat shrink over, and you're done.

The blue splice connectors (like for trailer light wiring) can actually split the main wire in half over time. That's more likely to happen in a high-vibration area like the engine compartment, but I don't like to risk it since it happend to me. (Spliced my aftermarket tach wire into my wiring harness... about 4 years later, all I had left in that engine wire was two copper strands! And I was wondering why my car was stalling out! )

ok thanks, that was my biggest problem, not knowing how to splice into the side of a wire....guess i'll learn how to solder tomorrow when my sub comes..i guess the only questions i have unanswered are:

1)how the red wire actually connects to the battery
2)where in the rear hatch area to run the ground to

thanks for all the info br()bert and TomP

If you have a top mount battery you can loosen the bolts holding down the + cable and add the amp power wire and tighten the bolts or you can crimp on a ring and add the ring on before the batt terminal bolt OR if you have side mount battery you can buy a connection bolt that has a bolt going through it, you screw it through the batt term and then the other bolt unscrews from the back of the main bolt, you add your amp power wire to this.

Sounddomain sells them.

Btw if you have a dual mount batt its about the easiest.

No problem on the help issue, im glad we could help like two mature adults, even though we dissagree on some things theirs no aguement, things like this is what this site needs!

Oh crap i forgot, You can ground it anyplace back there basically, Right behind the plastic panel, the one right by the very rear of the hatch theres a ground screw in my car, i used that for my amps.
