I never heard of American Pro either, so I did an internet search for their stuff, and, well, there's no way that sub is "1000 watts", even if it says 1000 watts on it! And there's no way that's an 800 watt amp driving it, because if it was really an 800 watt amp, it'd set that sub on fire.

Simple test- what size fuse is poking out of the side of the amp?

But, honestly- if he's asking for something cheap, like $50, you won't be able to buy anything quality for $50 (unless you did some serious ebay hunting!!), so it might be good for you, for now, as a starter system. If he's asking $200, well, you can buy low-wattage brand-name stuff that will sound just as good (such as a 50 watt amp and one 10 inch subwoofer in a ported box).

Example would be (I love doing these, haha) <a href="http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hiErcwGHf0R/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=113KAC5201" target="newwin">this Kenwood amp</a> and <a href="http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hiErcwGHf0R/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=236T4104A" target="newwin">this MTX sub</a> and <a href="http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hiErcwGHf0R/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=044QLHCS10" target="newwin">this box.</a> That'll get you a 120 watt system that will probably hit better than your friend's "800 watt" system. Shop locally and you can probably get items like these for cheaper.

So I guess it depends on how much he wants for his stuff. Heck, my starter system was full of garbage components (Pyramid, Craig, and RockWood)! The distortion was unbelievable.

right now I have a Rockford Fosgate system.
222w amp with a 400w sub in a armagedon z box. It sounds decent.
My friends sub hits much harder. And sounds very crisp. He was willing to part with everything for $200. Box, amp, and sub.

hes saving you $38 and selling you used, low quality ****.

How bout you buy the amp tom p sugjested and a ED e10Kx.44 /x .14 For $75 So with this amp and sub combo your spending the same $ (with shipping added) and instead of getting a crappy american pro amp and sub your getting a kenwood amp and a ED sub.

Thanks for the links. Ill check them out right after this post.
but, the amp isn't American Pro.
Its a 800w Power Acoustic, digital. Then box is really nice. I might just rub the sub for a bit..then through it out.

What's ironic is that American Pro is chinese crap.

American Pro, Performance Teknique, Volfenhag, Rockwood, Koiiler, AUDIOFONICS, and many other quality name brands are all made in the same chinese manufacturing plant and imprted by a company called American HiFi.

To the best of my knowledge, they're made by this company:
http://www.shengx.com

And if you order quantities of 500 or more, you can get them for $10/each with your own logo printed on the dust cap.
