need new headunit

Hey all

I currently have a jensen head unit. The one that the whole face glows red, i think its the 315x or something like that. Anyway, it works nice and all but the way my car rides, with the lowering springs and all that, it can become preety hard on a bumpy road, and even if i hit a manhole cover or something at like 25 mph it will cause this unit toskip. It was a fairly cheap unit, and i really only liked it because it glows red, like the rest of my int.

Now im fed up and i just really want something that i can listen to my cds drving around town without worying about skipping over a manhole cover.

So being i no abosolutly nothing about the subject, what do you guys suggest? Any brands/models have better anti skip then others? If it glows red its a bonus but it really doesnt have to. I just want a good cd player that wont skip on me.

thanks

joe

personally I like pioneer, I had one (until it got ripped off) and it never skipped on me, unless I had to go over a pretty good sized bump that is. I think kenwood is supposed to be a decent brand as well, just go to an actual electronics store, the people at wal-mart know next to nothing (and that is being generous)

i used to be a big fan of kenwood. good decks, quality, and wont really break the bank. i have however switched over to the Digifine series by JVC. i cant recommend the lower lines (not nearly as nice quality), but the sh909 (and sh99) are both spectacular decks. and it was even nicer when crutchfield had the 909 on clearance (previous year's model). the sh55, sh77, and sh99 are very good decks and can probably be found pretty cheap on ebay

My JVC does a nice job of not skipping. I've only heard it skip once, and that was with a slightly scratched CD on a bad pot hole in the road.

I sell car audio an I have had and installed many diferent brands of stereos, my favorite so far in stereos, is Alpine, then I would say kenwood, pioneer, and last JVC. I did'nt mention sony because I have had some problems with its lenses, I just sell them to people that really wants them, but that might be only a personal opinion. JVC is the most affordable of the brands I mentioned, and the one I sell the most, but the next head unit on my car will be without a doubt, alpine.

I would go with Pioneer. I don’t like the faceplate drive mechs on the new JVCs. The drive on the sh55 and all is total cheep crap. Thin mettle, long arms, no reinforcement = bends vary easily. And they are still using the problem prone Optima-720a1 optical pickups, they just don’t last vary long. Don’t get me wrong, Pioneer has gone to crap lately to, just not as bad.

But dollar for dollar it’s still hard to beat a Pioneer.

The new DEH-P7400 is the DEH-P7600. The DEH-P6500 was the "new" vertion for the DEH-P6400. All good units.
