I get radio reception

My antennae isn't secure to the fender, it's been like that since i've got the car. The radio has also never worked. I put in a sony deck and the radio still doesn't work. It has awful reception, and yes the antennae is plugged into the radio. Can having the antennae just hangin loose affect the signal?

YES.
That and it’s a Sony, they have horrible reception anyway.

yah i did notice that even the stock radio had better reception. I'll fix the antennae but i lost the nut thingy that holds it to the fender, I'll have to go to a junk yard. Thanks guys.

Something that may help, and with a Sony you’ll need all the help you can get. When you go to the junkyard see if you can find a car that uses a ground strap to the hood. If you can find one that in good shape grab it and use it to ground your hood. Scrap the paint off, make good grounds and see if that helps. But fix the antenna first. This may not make a difference but I’ve seen it work in some applications. I haven’t tried it with my car yet so no guaranties.
I know the start of this sounds like just more Sony bashing, but for the record there tuners DO meet all of their specifications, and their specifications ARE right in line with most of the other manufactures. It just that MOST of the other manufactures exceed their sensitivity specs. by a good bit.
