New System Install

Finnally had time to build a box and get my subs installed. Tony (Need4Speed) donated the amp rack and we spent a good portion of the day getting this all together. I think it turned out awesome.

edit: ignore the crappy lights my good ones are getting pollished. I am also still waiting on the smoked plexiglass that I ordered.

You don't have a cargo cover. What will you do to hide that nice setup from thieves looking through the back window?

Legal limit here is 50% on the back...not even worth tinting it.

hey crazy, not to crash your party... but my friend has that same exact setup with the comp vr 15's, and the "1000" watt fosgate amp... I totally destroy him with my PPI subs... and it's simply because fosgate almost doubles their rated wattage... sad but true! I'd guess that your amp is pushing about 600 watts... or less.

also, he has one tight-*** custom box that takes up the entire back "area" of his extended cab ford ranger...

and that's weird! in Texas I'm almost positive there is no limit on window tint on any windows except the front windshield, and the two front windows...

you can spray paint your rear hatch window black if you want... or paint it the same color as your car, completely not see-through, and you can't get in trouble. You just have to make sure you have two working side mirrors, or you will fail inspection.

sit down.... and calm down. most amp manufacturers rate their amps at max( the most it can deliver briefly). what you sallies should be arguin about is RMS power or the constant output ability. I know that Sony amps will advertise 1000 watts and RMS about 160-250 most

yup, the only amps I've seen that are somewhat under-rated are PPI, and I bet some alpine and really expensive stuff.... and wow, you are taking this too personally, I just find that hard to believe that its getting those numbers... if that amp is pushing 1100rms watts, then that amazes me beyond belief, considering it's rated for 1000.... you have found a great amplifier, and Fosgate is now a brand I must show great respect to... assuming that data sheet is right....

Ahh... you freaked me out for a little bit stiers. I thought you were running a bp1200.1 on 2 12" CVRs... hehe How's it sound?

As for the amps there are some companies that still underrate. My kicker KX1200.1 makes 1470 watts and I have the birth sheet to prove it. Also the JBL bp seres like Stiers is running is also underrated. I haven't got to bench test my bp1200.1s yet, but from what I've read from other peoples bench tests they make 1300+ RMS.

hmm...

since ya dont got a rear hatch cover....you might want to ping a PM over to Denny(Lfnatu) and see if he's got one you could use!

THAT way....your stuff would be able to be hidden at night(or day, but only if you go past 6 mile here in Det.! lol!)

scrapmaker, you would be surprised at some of the companies amplifiers doing more than what they are rated.

MTX, memphis, JBL, fosgate stuff from pre 01 was fine by me, and MANY more, but for every good company there are 5 that are shady and overrate their equipment.

???

you must be thinking of some pyle bullcrap or legacy, sony, pioneer who always over rate their amps.. theres soo many. Rock fordfosgate has always been out there for the best of quality and power i have no clue where you got that they are over rated.. their freakin up there on the top line of amps. and it shows. cause i witnessed its performance everyday in my car.. and its not the first system i have had : )

okay man I'm not saying they are BAD in any way other than the fact that they "overrate" their amps... 1000watts, is probably their peak output, and not their true RMS wattage... I KNOW they do this, as do MANY others, except the one's that badwagon just mentioned, and a few others...

hell, I was told that autotek UNDER-rated their amps... but NOPE! overrated as well... because the damn fuses don't compute... I have ONE 40amp fuse... that doesn't leave much room for power... assuming a 10% safety margin on the fuse rating, my amp can only dish out 432 watts at 12volts, and 504 watts at 14volts... not quite what its rated, is it? But I cannot rule out the possibility that you have the only non-over-rated amp made by Fosgate, and if you do, then I apologize, and I will not question you ever again in the future regarding your amp... but I'm tellin' ya, my friend has this exact amp... and it sure as hell isn't 1000 watts...

he can't come close to pushing those 15" CompVR's.... they sound great, but not what I would expect from serious speakers like those.... but I mean, even with the over-rating of their amps, make no mistake, they are not bad amps, and not bad for the price either... don't get upset.

I'd be surprised if the Fosgate stuff was overrated (well, at least in terms of power output ). I don't think they have the kind of quality they had in the past, but they still should at least make their rated power.

Do they still come with the birth sheets?

If you go by there RMS you'll be fine. They HAVE go to the "take RMS power, multiply by three, and call that the max power" thing. The P300.2 will say it's a 900W amp, 300W RMS, and the birth sheet will say 312W or so.

Anybody that buys an amp based on peak numbers deserves what they get.

jim, although i havent favored RF for the last 5-6 yrs, i've been hearing good things about their new amps. seems to be a decent buzz goin on about them over on carsound.

but i still like my ample stuff (just gotta get the sub amp repaired due to a misfortunate accident)

since we are on the over ratted subjedct a buddy of mine got an 1800watt fosgate amp . ok supposed to be 1800 well lets just say my memphis is only a 1000 and mine puts off so much more power then that fosgate any day of the week. now the new fosgates are the ones u have to worry about being over rated the old ones from when before they sold out are the good ones the square not rounded ended ones once they sold out to such places as best buy they turned to being very overated. now my buddy's amp that said 1800 watts well was actaully only around 600 just liek NEEDAZ stated tehy are trippleing the amount and puttin that as the power

just because they are overrated doesn't mean they are overrated! My friend's "1000 watt" amp is a damned good 600 watt amp... and that's the honest-to-*** truth.. but a good lesson in car audio is to always get more power than you need, that way you'll never regret it, and for future upgrades... plus if you blow a sub, you'll get a newer, better sub!
