Alright, I'm finally getting around to some finishing touches with my car and the audio department is where it's at. All I am looking for is stock replacement components. I know I want a 1.5 din cd player with factory replacement front speakers and rear 6x9's. What would you choose if you went this route?

well it all depends on what kind of sounds your wanting are you wanting more of a clearity in your music or more base sounding because that can make a huge difference in the decision on name brands and types of speakers

i would NEVER use one of the stupid looking poorly designed 1.5 dins from pioneer/kenwood etc.
i would however use an Eclipse 3414 head unit.
i would use Eclipse full range 4" coaxials in the front on a plate, and Eclipse 6x9's for the rear,

these can be found for less than 100$ per pair, and IMO sound much better than MTX, Alpine, Kenwood and Pioneer stuff in the same price range.

if you will spend a little more the pioneer D170R would make a GREAT rear location speaker for the sails.

Sony head units especially are a NO NO. The head units skip like crazy, and just arent built good. Just browse this board and see all the complaints. Sony 6-9s are alright but not great. I had em in the firebird for a while and they did just fine. If your looking for loud nice 6-9s that arent at least a few hundred. Id suggest Pioneer 5 ways. You cant get em at best buy. But you can order em online. As for 4-6 plates Id suggest Infinity kappa or polk MOMO but then again these brands arent exactly cheap. Infinity makes a lower brand called the reference series. Both brands are plates so itll make some nice bass and highs out of the dash.

As for a head unit. Im unsure if Alpine or Clarion make 1.5 din radios but Id say get one with subwoofer out and nifty functions like that. Ive been very happy with the alpine and my friends clarion is also very nice.

Let us know!

i have never heard a 4 inch speaker that gave "nice bass", and i have heard more than a few.

there is NO reason to have more than a 2 way coaxial, you are paying for bling, and they sound horrible.

Do you want your system to sound like crap?

Buy some Sony car audio.....

A friend of mine Just hooked up his truck with a Sony HU, Sony X-plode subs ect... from Crutchfield.

I wish he would've consulted me, but I'm just glad it's not my car that sounds like that! YUCK!

All i can say if you want alot of bass get a all rockford system

If you want SQ get all alpine or infinity

If you want a little of both get pioneer or kenwood.

Never ever get any sony at all!!!!

Everyone says rockford sounds like a retard banging on a folding chair well sony sounds like a retard screeming. Im TA in a special ED class and i know both those sounds all to well.

Stock locations and speaker sizes. Pretty much a bolt in and go kinda thing. I don't want any subs or custom boxes, etc. Just replacement equipment.

You're not going to have any bolt-on replacements unless you go with Delco direct replacements, simply because of the connectors used on the speakers themselves. When you go aftermarket, you will have to cut the connectors off the wiring and crimp on some female spades. I don't have the wiring diagrams handy, but a search of the Car Audio forum should yield a wiring diagram with the correct colors for positive and negative for each speaker.

As for speakers, I personally recommend Infinity Kappa series. The Reference series isn't very impressive. Go with an Alpine headunit if money is no problem. Bring that face in with you when you leave the car though. Everyone loves an Alpine.

I agree. Alpine is awesome. I must say though The head unit my friend bought for right around the same price is a clarion. It changes colors and sounds awesome. Would the bolt in factor you want include the dash kit? If your looking not to install a dash kit then you could go the route of a EQ. Im not sure if its a fill it in and bolt in kinda thing. You might still need a dash kit.

well you could get a bazooka tube pre amplified. a 1 1/2 din good quality radio with subwoofer out. decent 6-9s and 4-6s. It all isnt gonna be plug in and go. since youd prolly need a cd player out of a newer camaro for it to fit. Might not even not sure. But Id suggest looking around and seeing what you want.

Let us know.

It is virtually impossible to get adequate bass in a thirdgen if you only use 4x6s and 6x9s. There just isn't enough space in the sail panels to develop a subwoofer-like frequency. You will need a subwoofer and amp for it somewhere.

I'm not looking to win audio competitions here and I will not add subs or any amps, etc. Front 4x6's and rear 6x9's is what I'll have to work with. Let's put it this way, if that is all you could use and had to put them in the stock locations, what would you use and why?

infinity speakers...or the cdt coaxils..

infinity because they are my favorite speakers for the price.

For a cd player i wouldnt go with 1.5 din size...you'll end up needing a dash kit anyhow so just get a regular cd player and make it work

from time to time crutchfield offers great deals on cd players...i look into clarion, panasonic or pioneer

hope i was helpful.

People complain about Sony HU, but they go out and waste there money on 5 way speakers. lol. Any compenent audio person will tell you any speaker more than 3 way is a waste. Anyways I have Boston's in the front and sail panels and they are awesome. All others pail in comparison.

It's a marketing ploy. There's no need for 3, 4 or 5 seperate cones on one speaker. More isn't better in this case. A good quality component speaker or a plate speaker with a component, tweeter and built-in crossover is the best way to go for the stock 4x6 and 6x9 locations.
