My power antenna doesn't come out sometimes and it seems hard to fix it so I wanna get a replacement antenna. Any suggestions ?

 

I have an aftermarket antenna, but not a power unit. Installation is a pain in the *** with the power antenna because you don't have any room to work up inside the fender. You may need to remove the fender to change the antenna. With the manual antenna it's possible to replace it without removing the fender.

You can get an aftermarket power antenna for around $30-60, but they don't fit very well in my opinion. They come with a variety of angled mounting bosses, and you pick the one that fits your car best. It'll look okay, but it definitely won't look as clean as the original does. If it doesn't cost too much, get the factory one from a dealer.

 

I have tried aftermarket antennas from J.C. Whitney and a Harada MX-22. None of these have fit. The problem is the tube the mast would go back into is not long enough from the motor to the mount. It needs to be about 8-9 inches. It appears to me that a factory antenna is the only one that will fit. Anyone know of any others that will definitely fit without any modifications?

I have a Harada fixed-mast antenna on my IROC and it fits perfectly and stands totally vertical. You just need to **** around with the shims for a while. I never used the Harada power antenna tho.

We carry the fixed Harada antenna at my work too, and it looks just as good as the original.

The Harada MX-22/MX-24 power antenna is a universal-fit unit, but Harada makes factory power antennas for many manufacturers. It's a near-perfect fit in Hondas, Toyota Camrys, and Saabs if you transfer the bracketry from the broken original antenna.

 

Some little 14 y/o skater bitch butsed off my antenna about a month ago. Instead of replacing it i put on a windshield mount antenna then just jid the hole where the origional was. I get the same reception as efore and it's hard to notice where it is, but it looks cool. I got the window antenna at radioshack for about $15

 

Jim, have you tried any antenna boosters that work? I installed a power antenna that I love, but the reception sucks. I listen to CD's 99% of the time, so it doesnt bother me too much. Just wanted to see if you or anyone else has tried any successfully.

i shaved my antenna and ordered the "untenna" from dakota digital. it works alright i guess, but you have to find a good spot to mount it for it to work properly. if any of you are considering my route and do order it make sure you ignore the instructions. I followed the instructions for once in my life and blew up my $1200 head unit. if anyone does do this and have questions email me i can help!

I haven’t seen it mentioned, but you can re-build the stock antenna. I think TDS has the kits to re-build them.
Antenna boosters are a joke. The best thing to do is make sure all the grounds are good. Some times running a ground strap to the hood helps. The biggest thing if the antenna system is in good shape is the HU and how good the tuner in it is.
