Bose kicks

I have a set of Bose kick panels and I don't have the Bose setup.
Is there a way to make them work as a reg set of speakers? Or is there a way to gut them and put some components in there?

I believe you need to have the bose deck along with the amplifier for the speakers to work properly. They are a self amplified speaker so they will not work with a regular cd deck. I had the bose kick panels in an older iroc-z and me and a buddy were able to modify them to fit 5 1/2 infinity kappa components. Theres a guy on this board with the name Todd91Z or something like that cant remember the exact nameand he helped me out quite a bit.

So it is possible to just gut them and use other speakers then? Kind of a shame to do--but since I don't have a Bose setup I think I'll mess w/it sometime soon.

If you dont have a Boss stereo that came with the car then I highly doubt you will be able to use the speakers. You could try selling them on e-bay!

Well--they're cheaper then having a custom set of kicks, and I already have them--so I guess I'll have to gut them and put components in there--unless someone would want to swap?

Get some wood and used the bose as a template to make your own.

I don't see why you can't use those speakers with any stereo setup... if they are self-amplified, then that just makes it easier... I bet its high-level inputs! or if not, then I'm sure its just rca voltage input...

what you should do is look at the connectors, and find out which one's power, and ground, then the other two are for the actual sound... also, if you plan on gutting these things, you might be able to use the built-in amps with your new speakers... but watch out, because hq stuff like bose, and the monsoon system use something wicked like 8ohms.... maybe you could just replace the bose speakers with the bose replacement speakers?

They make replacement non amped speakers?
Does anyone know the size speakers in these? I haven't played w/them yet--haven't really had the time. I'm not even sure if I got the other ends of the plugs for them yet!

You can cut out the self-amp and just wire the kick speakers to an aftermarket stero...my dad did that to my Sisters 89 maxima. They sounded sweet!

I just picked up a pair of these and discovered someone had already bypassed the internal amp. Reconnected the internal amp and yikes.. friggin things get way too loud with a decent stereo setup with the internal amplifier, and there's no gain control I can see on that thing. The internal amps are laying in a pile o' stuff now... the kicks are going in with the stock speaker directly wired. Very-doable, and personally good stereo equipment is better than the bose amp, even with its built-in crossover.

what a shame... I bet there is some way to lower the volume... bose makes some good amps/speakers

I'm sure with a little work a variable resistor could be wired in to handle gain control on the bose amps, but personally I had two spare channels to play with remaining on my amp rack anyway... all full now tho. The bose kicks sound... okay. Seem a little flat.. seriously considering fresh speakers for them. Definitely filled the acoustic void under the dash line, though

hrm, is there anything spectacular about the bose kicks...? is it just the speakers, or are they ported or what?

oh man... if you could find the equivalent bose replacement speakers, that would kick some serious ***.... ported kicks... mmmm that gives me ideas...

I wonder if porting kicks would sound good for other speakers...
