I'm buying an 86 Sport coupe, 5 speed, V6 (Plan on an LT1 swap in the future), for like 550 bucks (runs and drives good, in good shape, the kids parents want him to get rid of it). Its got an older (at least 1 year old) JVC head unit in it, and he's willing to take 100 bucks (what he paid for the HU) off if I dont want it. I'm thinking that for 100 bucks, I could pay a little more and get an Alpine or Pioneer. Right?
Also, without spending much money, what should i do as far as speakers? Would like something that sounds good, but I dont want to spend much more than 300 bucks on audio stuff.....figure 130 for a low-end Alpine, so 170 bucks for speakers, amps, etc.
What can you recomend?
Thanks

Tell the guy to take his HU out because do you really wanna spend $100 for a used cd player? Didnt think so. Go buy a decent Pioneer HU for maybe around $130 or so. In my car I got a Panasonic with an organic display. It looks neat. For speakers if you're on a budget look into getting some pioneer 4x6 to replace the stock speakers because they are paper and sound like crap let me tell you. For the 6x9's Infinity Reference 9603i speakers are really good for our cars. They fit the stock pillar location and provide decent sound and bass for a low budget. I got mine on e-bay for a total of 70 some dollars. That should hook you up for the time being. Later on you can get an amp and some subs. But for now that will sound good. Later.

I actually decided, hey...i'm gonna be driving the car...doesnt have a V8, doesnt have T-Tops, doesnt have turbo.....Besides the 5 speed, wheres the extra fun?
for 550 bucks I think i'll just go for it....
Rockford Fosgate 501X amp - 200 bucks TheZeb
Pioneer DEH-P4600MP - 135 bucks IkeSound
Phoenix Gold Ti10 - 90 bucks TheZeb
Infinity Reference 5000cs - 110 bucks IkeSound
Throw in some shipping charges, as well as some wireing, it will end up being a little more than 550 bucks (figure i've gotta build a sub box as well)....but hey, if I can get 150 bucks for my GoPed, 150 for my paintball gun, and 100 bucks for my nitro R/C truck.....
Thats not even 200 bucks i'll have to take out of my 'car fund' to get a nice system.....
Whatcha think?
Oh, would I need custom kick panels for the component speakers?

LOL, Camaros dont come with Turbo. But, yeah I see your point in wanting some extra fun. The components for your system look in order and should provide you some good sound!
If you want to save some money I suggest you try to buy these items on e-bay. An example, I just recently bought a pair of Infinity reference 6x9 speakers for around 78 dollars including shipping. The retail price for these speakers is $179.00. And, yes, these where NEW speakers sealed in the wrapping. So, to save some money man go check out e-bay.com and get the best deal!
For instance the Pioneer head unit that you said you could get for 135 bucks on e-bay I found one for just 100 bucks. Here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...710514293&rd=1
So it pays to look on e-bay!! Well, good luck to you and tell me how things turn out man!

haha i know camaros never came with turbos....but the turbo trans am wasnt a V8 yet it would still be fun, even without t-tops, 5 speed, sterio, or A/C, lol
My thing with eBay is that alot of the time, it looks like a great deal until you see the shipping.....
40 dollars to ship a small, lightweight box, not even overnight, seems a bit much....but its how they make money.
But yeah, I will definatly look on eBay and see what I can find...

"(1) Set of eDi 6500s 6.5" Components + (1)eD NINe.1 Amplifier + $550.00 Pre-Order* / Regular Cost $1,045.00
w/ 13Kv.2 Dual 2 + NINe.2"
does this mean you get the following?
6.5" Components
1 1200 RMS Watt @ 1ohm stable Amplifier
One 12" Subwoofer
1 400 RMS Watt @ 4ohm-? stable Amplifier...
that is literally impossible!
I have never even heard of this brand, but somehow all the specs seem like really high quality stuff... and I'm amazed at how you seem to get over $1500 worth of stuff for $500... simply amazing....

yeah i'd rather stick with names i've heard of before and that have a good reputation than to try out some "new" brand...especially from an online store i've never heard of or seen before...

Stick with name brand components like Infinity,Alpine,Memphis Audio, and Kicker. Dont buy no name brand speakers because they will most likely sound like a pair of Pyramid speakers or even worse BOSS speakers. ARGGH.

Resonant Engineering also has their components out now too! Pretty much 2 lines both are 6.5" midbass, tweeter, and crossover: RE and XXX. The RE is around $160 shipped. The XXX is $400 + shipping but offers around a 12 mm xmax on the midbass.

Yeah....ignorant and narrowed minded people deserve some love too nible. The only reason I said stick to name brand components is because this guy probably doesnt know what are good no name brand components and will probably buy a pos Pyramid.

me?
I browse the car audio forums and stuff (Termpro and caraudoforums.com) so i do know pretty much which stuff is better than other stuff.....
The reason I want to stick with names i've heard of, is mostly because i'm not very serious about car audio, and i just want something easy to buy, work with, etc.....not looking for the BEST out there, but the best I can buy and afford and feel safe with..... Just like how i'm sure some of you buy Dells or Gateways or Compaq PCs.....cause theyre well known, good computers (not the best though), and you dont want to worry about going with something thats just starting out or isnt well known.....

I like the nine.1... is that what they used in that video?
plus did you say you will now be running this company?
*also, what's the deal with those really expensive amps at the end of the list? They should put more info on the site

Don't think I will ever run that company.
those TRU amps are really high end. They are nice, but too expensive. www.trutechnology.com for more info on those amps

so what's the lowdown on this stuff? how the hell can you get all that for $450? that's nearly impossible (hope this doesn't sound like a cheasy radio commercial!)
but I dunno, it sounds to good to be true, and that's never been a good thing in my experience.
