Question about my RCA Cables//noise
Hey, guys...I had noise in my speakers (ignition noise, that is), so I revamped my system...new speakers (Infinity 693.5i), new wiring (4 Guage Power/Ground), new head unit (same amp as before...500Watt Kenwood), and made sure everything was routed as it should be. I still have a little noise. Also, I have a new nice set of MSD 8.5mm Plug Wires & an MSD Ignition.
The Monster RCA Cable Sets (I have two dual-RCA Runs from the head to the Amp) have a center wire...bare on both ends. Should this be tied to Ground? What's that for? I really want to get rid of that popping noise. It is interesting, though...it doesn't get louder with the system//if I turn the volume up loud, there is no noise.
Thanks!
Scott

You can attach the amp end to the casing of the amp somewhere, and attach the headunit end to the casing of the headunit. Don't attach them to the power grounds for the amp or headunit though.

Tonight I'll ground the center wires to the cases & see where I am. I'm convinced that the noise is at the amp. I noticed that my battery ground is tied to the engine block. I may put an additional ground tie-in directly to the chassis & see if that helps.
Thanks, guys!

I wouldn't use that as a remote turn-on because you don't want any 12v source near your rcas.. seems like a bad idea.... and also, where did you route all your wires?
There should be a thin wire running off the negative cable for the battery that is attached to the frame just behind the fender. I have a dual post Optima battery and built a short 4 gauge wire from the negative top post to the frame, as this is the same gauge wire I'm using for the amp's ground. If you're using an 8 guage wire for the amp ground, then use 8 gauge for the battery-to-frame ground.

BINGO! I ran a 4 Guage wire from the battery (-) to the chassis to suppliment the (-) to Engine Block...the noise is gone.

i havn't read the whole thing but im not sure if this has been mentioned. if your hearing a widning sound form your speaks when you rev the enging it could be the wires run, if you have them all along one side or have them all in the same area they may tranfer frequencies/signals through the coating which creates a winding sound. i had the same problem until i switched around my wiring. before i had my powerline, rca's and remote line run through one side of the car. then i switched it so my power was on the one side and my rca's and remote were on the other. and that cleared it up. no more winding sound.

Yeah Curtis, I had my power running right with my rca's and etc for a couple feet, and it made a whirring noise with the idle of the engine. (I joked it as a supercharger, 'cause when I revved, so did the "whiiiiir"). I then rewired it so the power wire on is within 2 inches only for about half a foot and it stopped
. Ideally you'd want them on seperate sides of the car but that'll be a later day for me heh.
