amp power

amp power

the amp I have in my car now is a piece of **** (legacy) but it took a 12 volt power supply the amp I just bought the rockford fosgate P6002 takes 14.4 volts..do I have to change the wires or what? thanks

No, leave the wiring alone. It gets what it gets, if the cars is only putting out 13.2 volts or 12.6 and not 14.4, guess what? It's not getting 14.4 volts!!

What you should be concerned about is the power requirements of the amp. It should have at lease 8 gauge, but if it is a more powerful amp, like 350 watts rms or up, 4 gauge might be better. I don't have a chart in front of me and people will argue all day long about what is overkill and what isn't. Basically, you will need thicker wire as the power requirment goes up.

If I remember right, thirdgens do get to that 14 volt threshold while running. In this case, you're in luck, you will get full performance from the amp...If not, who cares..if it's a good enough amp, it should sound fine anyways.

thanks, the spec testing sheet that came with it said that it puts out a combined RMS power of 744 watts in two ohms is that going to be ok for 8 gauge wiring
