Question about Sony Amp and Subs

I was looking at a Sony amp and sony subs for sale at Best Buy and Pep-Boys. The amp was $200 and is now on sale for $179...The amp is a Sony 1200 watt max power,600 watts per channel, 2 channel amp.It says the amp has bass boost, and it says the amp is "2 channel MOSFET"...Does anyone know what that means and does anyone have the amp and know if its any good?

I was also wondering about 2 Sony 12" subs,1200 watta, does anyone maybe have them and how do they sounds...Thanks..Al in NJ

Thats the exact amp that I have in my car right now. It serves me well, I've got compliments on it. I'm sure its not the best, but its decent.

I have sony in my car and its been pretty good, has held up for about 2 years so far. If your looking for sony though dont bother with best buy. Ill sell you mine if the person Im thinking of doesnt hurry up. Ive got a 1000 watt amp and 1200max (something like 250-350 RMS max doesnt really mean anything.)12s along with a custom box. Ill sell it all for 425 or best offer. I mean I paid 225 for box alone when I bought it and you know the prices on the amp/subs so youd be saving quiet a bit. I live in northern RI if your willing to take a trip. I cant really ship the box but Id be willing to ship the other stuff if your serious. Let me by tommorow please.

That just means that it uses MOSFETs as the output device opposed to bipolar transistors. It's more or less a marketing thing. "Hey, if we say MOSFET no one will know what that means but they'll buy it because it sounds cool." Sony, as a rule of thumb, makes crap when it comes to car audio. The only reason they sell anything car audio related is marketing hype just like this. Is it something you should be worried about, NO. Should you make a purchasing dissection based off of this, NO.
By the way MOSFET (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect-Transistor). That help you out?

laff... first of all the sony 1200 watt amp is only like 150 watts RMS at most......

RMS means everything. its the real output of the amp or capacity of the subs in real time. 1200 max is the most at one point the said item can output or take.... sony rates their stuff way high and then sells it to uneducated ppeps... search the boards and you see the general concensus about sony I.C.E.

NEEDAZ is right.. pass up the sony crap and get a decent pioneer or panasonic amp and subs.

Your local Circuit City will beat that price. I deal with about a dozen major name brand subs on a daily basis, and for what you're paying for them, the Sony subs are actually pretty good subs. I recommend them to my customers that are on a tight budget. Their amps are so-so at best. Nothing special, but they're relatively inexpensive. Just make sure you get the extended warranty along with it. Stay away from their head units and speakers.
