sony xplod XS-L121P5 $50 | Good deal?
I was at my local wal mart and saw these subs on sale for 50 bucks.. I need some "cheap" subs because my punch subs are just about shot.. 350 RMS - 1200W peak. Good deal or not?

Ya they will be ok. They arent great but if you are looking something inexpensive they should work. But if you just wait it out, you can find some rediculous deals on ebay. Here is some stuff i found

you can save your 50 bucks or 100 if you were going to buy two and get a decent one that will sound better than both of those sonys. i seem to like to refer to the type rs from alpine. check out ikesound.com for some deals.

The sony's are actually a gift..rather, they are going to be... I'm just wanting to know if they will be "ok" with a 1500W RF amp, and if they are good for the price.

and that is what we are trying to tell you. if you do a quick search on this site for sony you will find 99.9% of post negative towards sony products. that is why i suggest taking that money and putting it towards 1 good sub and that will sound better than the two sonys.

please look into others besides audiobahn. i have a few friends who got captured by "chrome" subs and they sound like ***. search around some posts on this site to find what might be good. the only good thing about going to best buy and circuit city type places is that you can literally hear what you like but they also only offer certain, not always good, brands.

well best buy deals with mainly rockford, sony, and dual. Circuit city is a little better.(alpine, audiobahn, bazooka.) but Id say out of the retail main stores tweeter probably has the better stuff.(jbl,JL,alpine, etc etc...)
If you look at small stores youll find some good stuff too...
Your best bet is ebay though with a actual online store.

I'd look into some of the Dayton drivers from Parts Express. For the money, they'll be a lot better than that sony crap. Actually, PE carries some of Phoenix Gold's lower end stuff too, which is also much better than Sony. As long as you're considering ebay, I'd look at PE. You won't get screwed, and you'll get something a lot better than sony for your money.

Parts Express is awsome, I've known guys who built entire home theater systems and things from there. You just have to stay clear of the obvious bargain bin items they throw in once and awile. You still get bang for the buck though....I still have a bag of zip-ties I bought when I was 16, these things just won't run out...no matter how many I use. I think I spent about $5, it was a clearance item, I'm not sure how many were in there.
I once found a sony sub in a parking lot. I glued the cone back together with liquid electrical tape and soldered the wires on the cone. It must have blown apart at one point, I gave it away for free, I never even tested it. Last I heard it was working fine.
For some people it's ok, but I have a long commute, there is no way I'm going to skimp on the audio. I'd stick with the heavy duty stuff that sounds great at low volumes and high volumes just the same.

A lot of PE's bargain bin stuff is an exceptional value. I've bought a lot of their buyout stuff.
Here's a pic of a pair of speakers I built for my bedroom. The woofers cost me $.87 each, and the tweeters were $.88 each. I have under a $10 investment in these speakers, not including the enclosure.
They might not be the last word in audiophile quality, but they'll compete with anything that you can buy for under $150.
