What should I do about tweeter positions?
I mounted 6.5" 3 way speakers in my kick panels of my car. The bass is much better, however its clearly a terrible place to have tweeters. My idea was to disconnect the tweeter at the bottom and remount it up in my dash. Does that make sense or is there a better place to mount them?

When using component speakers, the kick panels are a great location for tweeters, but when you're using coax speakers, you've got to accept certain limitations, most notably the fact that you can't position the tweeter for optimum dispersion.
Since you've already got the kick panels, why not upgrade to a nice set of 2 way components? That'll give you the ability to reposition the tweeters for better results.

I second the 2-way components... if you search the threads, you'll hear plenty of explainations of why that is exactly...
and no, I'd have to say, do not put the tweeters in the dash, (reflecting off the windsheild for sure,) because at that point, why wouldn't you have just purchased kappa plates or something?

Ok, thanks guys. I'll get those down the road. I just got a great stereo system all lined up and speakers are last since I have decent aftermarket ones right now (Sony and Pioneer). I went to Tweeter and tried all the speakers without looking at price. Alpine SRS-690A were the best speakers in the place to my ears, so I may try the 6.5" version for the front.

what sucks is that they always amplify the speakers at stores, and sometimes they make their 'preferred' speakers sound better...
one of my friends that worked at best buy told me they would do this so people would by the more expensive units that really sounded about the same as the cheap stuff.

Yeah, but these were the second cheapest set. They were all being ran from the same deck to the same amp, then selecting speakers. These were $140 ($60 on ebay) and were better than some of the $200-$300 Boston Acoustics.
