mono channel amp with 2 DVC subs?
My buddy can hook me up with a 800W mono-channel Pioneer amp for pretty cheap and I have 2 Audiobahn 12" AW1251SE, which are dual voice coils.
I dont know too much about stereos, so would htat work well? I dont know how the dual voice coil thing works. I didn't know if I needed a 2 channel amp for that or what

okay, here's the sub info...
AW1251SE Audiobahn 12" subs
Frequency Response: 24Hz-1kHz
Efficiency: 92.1dB
Impedance: Dual 4 - 2 - 8 Ohm
RMS Power Handling: 400 Watts
Peak Power Handling: 800 Watts
and here is the Pioneer GM-7100M amp info...
Peak Power 800 Watts
Load Impedance Capability 2~8 Ohm
Continuous Power (4 ohm) 250W x 1
Continuous Power (2 ohm) 360W x 1

That amp is only a 360 watt amp and unfortunatly with the subs you have you would only beable to run one and beable to get that kind of power. Basically your stuck at 8, 4 or 1 ohm with the coils you have. 1 ohm would probably fry the amp 4 ohms would work but would only give each sub 125 watts. This would power it but won't doa very good job. If it were me I would look for a different amp, or buy 2 of those and use one for each sub.

They have two (2) 4ohm voice coils each Which means they can be run at either 2 or 8 ohm depending on how the voice coils are wired together. So you could run them at 2 or 8 ohm stereo or 1, 4 or 16 ohm in mono.
The only options you have with that amp are 1 sub at 2ohm or 2 subs at 4 ohm as the other guy stated. If you are getting the amp cheap and already have the subs go for running the each sub's DVC at 2 ohm (wired parallel) and then wire each sub together in series to get a 4 ohm total load. The amp out put will be 250 watts total and you will only lose about 1 - 2 db than if you running it at 3 ohm at 360 W
GM-7100M
Mono channel capability 1 x 800 (2 Ω) W or 1 x 500 W (4 Ω) (Max. Power)
Continuous output power: 1 x 360 W (2 Ω) or 1 x 250 W (4 Ω)
1 x 380 W (4 Ω) DIN Power (DIN 45324, +B = 14.4 V)
Load impedance capability (2 — 8 Ω)

run it 1 ohm see what happens
I've run old V12 alpines(before the digis) at 1 ohm lots they hold up to it no problem

It wouldn’t be loud, but if it’s a good deal it will work till you can save the $$$ for a better amp (I would start with better subs first, watch the gains, then get the better amp).

can someone answer me this?
what is the difference is between these two scenarios?:
2ohm @ 100%gain = X watts
1ohm @ 50%gain = X watts
as long as you don't exceed X (the maximum) watts, shouldn't you be okay? Isn't the only problem when people push the amp to more REAL watts than it can output (pulling more current that the amp is capable of)?

Lower ohm rating get closer to a dead short. Really build up some heat with 1 ohm on that amp. Might try wiring the coils in each speaker in series and then parallel both speakers to the amp, get you somewhere in the range, but I'd look for some other equipment if you haven't got the stuff yet.

Srappys not to far off on this one. The heat come in with higher current loads (really inefficient power handling, but power goes up because of the current from the low ohm load in this case) . Keeping the gains down would limit the over all current. The most common failure from low ohm loads is shorted FETs in the power supply. Again keeping the gains down would help this problem.
But I think you may get into problems with damping. But I’m not positive. Hey Jim, you would know this one better, any insight?

I can say for certain that on my 4ch amp, I needed to wire up half the amp @ 2 ohms, which it doesn't support... as long as I kept the gain at 50% it didn't go into protect mode... and it sounded fine.... I wonder what damage it can cause?

i have the 1251se they are alright subs for the money. if you want something that sounds good then dont buy them. but they do get loud.... crazy loud for cheapo subs underpowered in the box i made (im working on my cardomain site so yall can see the box) long story short, i have two of those subs and the a8000t amp which is monoblock.
i have the subs wired in series for the voice coils then parallel on the amp just because that was easier for me. the subs are rated to 400watts and right now each sub is only getting 200. depending on the box and location theses subs have potential. lets just say that on my head unit i have the sub setting at -6 which is as low as it goes and for some songs that is still to loud.
