Shattered Glass And Wires.....

that is a mental picture for you to know what my hatch looks like right now.

Today Aarron, his friend, and I went to Roanoak to do some creek fishing. We parked off of Highway 377, and left the cars there for about 2 and half hours. Well some time during the last hour teenagers busted out my rear hatch glass and stole my stereo, amp. and headunit. I had/have glass in places that one would never imagine.

Tomorow i have insurance coming to estimate the total damage, as well as buy the new hatch door, and tail-key hole (where they attempted to get in that route. So now its pretty much out of my hands and into insurance.

Oh man that blows. If you were around here I have an extra 86 hatch I'd give you. It's the only year with the high third brake light (which I hate, hence the extra hatch). Good luck with insurance.

Take the new hatch off before the insurance adjuster gets there. Don't tell them you have it already.

Just make sure you make it perfectly clear to the adjuster that if the damage is enough to total the car, to write it as low as necessary NOT to total it.

The hatch is worth a significant amount, and since they aren't going to give you squat for the stereo equipment, you can make up for that by getting the rightful amount on the hatch. If you show them your $50 hatch, all they'll give you for it is the $50, plus some pro-rated percentage of the stereo's value if you're lucky. In most cases, the stereo equipment isn't covered unless you can prove that it was bolted down.

In most cases, aftermarket stereo components are not covered under most insurance policies unless you have a waiver. With that said, it may not even be worth the claim but it would be a good idea to check with your insurance carrier.

I talked to my insurance carrier today and decided not to even make the claim. I have a 500 deductable and was told that it would not even be worth making the claim. So i picked up the hatch up at a local junk yard for $65. I am not in a huge hurry to get any sterio equipment back in the car right now.

But.....the bax for a new one has begun.

I can't stand punks like that. We work hard for what we have, and some tools have the attitude that all they need to do is steal whatever they want.

It's just a lack of discipline.

i caught 3 kids breaking into my car at 2am. my car was towed home that night and parked in the street. my dad ran into my room and told me he heard glass shatter. I ran out with a bat, could get all 3 but I got one of the good in the back of the head. He told me where they were going and I finished their car off while my dad delt with the cops at the house, lol

Violence is never an good answer, but I'd have to say, the past two years, I've had 4 bikes stolen locally and no one has messed with my cars, but that's of equal value as all that stereo equip, I'd bet....since I built these bikes up or had them for years. I agree that today's youth is not getting proper parental upbringing....no morals, no ethics, lower then dirt!

That sucks, hope it all works out OK. Make sure you vacuum the hatch out- a few times- with a shop vac!! You don't want to catch one of those glass shards under your fingernail a year or two from now!!
