Sub and Amp Suggestions

I tried a search and couldnt find anything that helped me out much. I have Type S in the dash and Type R in the sails with a Pioneer headunit. Now Im looking for two rather 10" or 12" and an amp to power them. I also want to spend barely above $400 hopefully so does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a 12" Type-R sub and a Pioneer GM-D510M amp both of which I bought off of ebay and I spent under $300.I got the amp for like $180 and the sub for $100 both brand new.You could probably even find a Alpine amp on there for like $200 and the new Type-Rs go for around $100 on there too if you wanted an all Alpine thing except your headunit.

alpine amps are rather expensive even on ebay.

Watts/money ratio. I think hifonics zeus might be a good idea...

I dont know the exact name but are the black w/red lettering Punch any good because crutchfields offers two for something like $120. 1) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-oi3zB2F...00&I=575P112S4 . I dont care at all with staying all Alpine because I think subs are in a complete class of their own so it doesnt matter. 2) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-oi3zB2F...0&I=500SWE1242. For how cheap Im looking are MTX really that bad? 3) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-oi3zB2F...50&I=700T56410 I did a few comparisons and at least for the ones that crutchfields offer these Kenwoods seemed to be the best for the money but then again I dont know much about subs. 4) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-oi3zB2F...700&I=113W3009

Come one dont make me create a new thread titled Best Affordable Sub or something to get your attention. I know many of those I listed above arent that good but I every search I've found one person recommending a no name sub and no one else backing it up. Please anyone?

Im not looking to get really loud, im for about quality over quantity so Im not looking for spl but it doesnt really matter to me. Then Im probably looking for two 12's or maybe 10's possibly. Im rather going to go for a simple wood box for the dip in the hatch area and point it forward or go with a more complex fiberglass.

may i suggest just 1 really high end sq sub? sometimes its better to get just one really good sub rather than 2 lesser quality subs, and u have the "cool" effect of only havin 1 sub and bein louder/soundin better than others who have 2 lesser subs....you have about 3 cubes in the dip just thought id let u know b4 u decided on subs (gotta have a proper sized box dont we now?)

1 or 2 of these (read the reviews at the bottom.

http://www.cardomain.com/item/IDSID10V3D4

and the CA800.........

http://www.profilecaraudio.com/amplifiers.htm

that puts u at 350 if u get 2 subs, it'll be cheaper w/1 sub, and a diff. amp.........

Thanks alot, those are the types of responses I was looking for actually. Well the thing is I once again have these old Alumapro's in a 15" which I truly have no idea what they are. They are old, used to be put in Bullfrog boxes and I know have been used in PA systems. I dont know much much about speakers/subs at all so could you help distinguish the difference. Is a sub technically just a low range speaker or is it a completely different design? I like the idea of two subs for some reason, maybe just for the looks/bragging rights but if I do go for a single I'd like to use this 15" Alumapro and get a nice amp to power it. Thanks alot for your the links and everything. What do they technically do by the way when they refurbish an amp? Is it used and they just clean it up or was there some problem with it from the factory that they fixed?

subs-used to play notes ranging from 50Hz all the way down to 20ish (ur ears can only hear down to around 20 and most music only drops down to the mid to high 20's. Most people cut off the frequency in the low pass filter on their amps at around 50Hz, however this is just a preference)

the reason subs cant play higher notes is because smaller speakers (like tweeters) are able to move a lot faster to reproduce the high notes (like vocals in a song), and a sub cannot move that fast due to its size. While a tweeter can't play as low as a sub)

I wouldn't use pa speakers in a car audio setup (unless they were designe for it) my friend had a pa speaker in his car and it sounded horrible. go to www.caraudio.com and sign up, do some searches and just ask questions if your'e interested in learning about car audio. There's so much info there it's crazy.......

I've always had 2 sub setups (rf punch z's, pioneer 2000spl's, etc) and im about to go to a single sub setup (ss rlp-12) with a custom amp-rack, box, new equip etc, etc. i think i'll be happier with a 1sub setup because it takes up less space, will still give me the spl i want, as well as the sq, and will wow people with the overall performance......

if you have anymore questions hit me up.......nonviolently.

So basically a sub is just a low range speaker right that is capable of producing the lower frequencies better? Anyone have any more suggestions for my setup? I have joined caraudio.com by the way.

i knew i forgot somethin, to answer your question about the refurbished amps, what they do is when they get an amp sent in because something was wrong with it, or the customer damaged it, they go through and replace everything internal......i wouldn't buy a refurbished amp from a place that wasnt a authorized dealer of the company.......do you have the same name on caraudio.com "yossarian14"????

yup Yossarian14 is my name on pretty much any other website. So are do you pretty much think that those cheapiest listed from crutchfields above are crappola? The only one I was looking at was the punch series 1 which got to be pretty weak.

If u want a quality sub for around 100-150 get a jl12w0 or the new 12w1v2. Get a decent 200 watts RMS per sub.

actually for the same price as the 2 image dynamic subs, you could get 1 soundsplinter rl-p12 (mine is $260 shipped) but it would require a bigger amp (around 700-900rms) the jl subs are good, but not for the price (especially in the upper levels) but 100-150 isn't bad i guess.....

12w0's are quite a deal for the price. Once you start getting into the high end JL stuff, that's where people commonly have their disputes.

The higher end JL's arent priced that bad. They hit deeper notes better than any sub iv heard. Plus the overal quality of the sound is awsome. I love my W6's, but im thinking about selling them. They are just to loud.

When you compare the w7's to subs of the same caliber from other manufacturers, there is quite a price difference.
