What amplifier do you recomend?

I bought some Infinity Kappa 693.7i 6x9s and Infinity Kappa 462.7cfp 4x6s. What would be the best amp for the money to get?

any good 35x4 or 50x4 from a reputable company would do. Kicker, Rockford, Phoenix, etc.

Stay away from the typical chinese made crap from anybody who charges under $200 for a 4x50 watt (or more) amp.

There's a new company out called Zed Audio. The owner/designer is the guy that designed some of the best old school amps like the Zapco stuff, the Hifonics Brutus and others. I don't have experience with their product, but it has a very good reputation from those who have used it:

http://www.zedaudio.com/home.html

If you're not looking for a ton of output, you may find that even a mid level amp from Kenwood, Pioneer, Profile or others will fit the bill. These amps tend to make their rated power (unlike the Kicker, Rockford, Phoenix, etc crowd, which makes significantly MORE than rated power) and are fairly priced. Not the powerhouse brands, but they aren't junk either. I've got a 35x4 Pioneer amp that I've used to power various coax setups, and it's always had plenty of power for my applications.

this may sound rough... but at least in my experience, the new brutus stuff is total crap. so I hope that company is in no way associated with this new 'line'.

In all honesty, you can pick up a GREAT 4-channel 640RMS watt amp at any custom audio store.

e.g. the AutoTek 4160... great, solid amplifier, and runs subs effortlessly... the only reason I got the new eD NINe.1 was because I wanted to actually use my 4ch as a 4ch amp, and power my kappas and blaupunkts..

unfortunately, once you amp the kappas, you realize how weak they really are, and how little power they can take before your ears start melting from the high-pitched distortion of the infinitys.

boston acoustik, autotek, PPI kicker, JL..

hell you'd be fine with Sony or Rockford Fosgate as well... as long as you're not powering subs with the amp.

All of the new hifonics stuff is overrated. The old stuff was very powerful, well built stuff. The guy that designed that old stuff is who designs (and owns) the Zed amps.

By the way, the new Autotek amps are crap too. Autotek is yet another name that once meant something, but since being bought out, the name is just slapped onto cheap chinese crap.

Autotek is owned by the same people who own the Hifonics name, along with the Crunch and Maxxsonics names. They're all crap.

Maxxsonics owns PPI and Orion and Phoenix Gold... right?

I have a 2-year-old AutoTek... I believe it was before the buy-out. Rock solid amp. (SX-4160)

Directed Electronics owns PPI and Orion. Phoenix Gold owns Phoenix Gold, as well as Carver and AudioSource.

Maxxsonics owns Maxxsonics, Hifonics, Autotek and Crunch.

Car: on the hunt for a 3rd gen again
i heard this years hifonics amps are supposed to put out their rated power....like they changed the 1500d to the 1205d (so it puts out an advertised 1200wrms)

and why do people say hifonics suck??did you have problems with one of their amps or don't like the fact that they're overrated??IMO 12-1300wrms for $250 shipped is not a bad amp at all..........I would love to pay $2385847547 for a 250wrms jl amp...........but i can't so imo hifonics amps are good amps for the money.

no, I had a problem with TWO 1605D amps, that were $300.

Same exact problem from both.

Hook up the amp to the power in the car, hook up the subs, and I got a high-piched hum from the subs. Returned the amp, got another, same problem.

The hifonics amp claimed 1100 watts at 2ohms, and yet the amazing eD nINE.1 I have claims a 900watts at 2 ohms, and it's MUCH more powerful. I feel like I can almost break my subs at 2ohms.

I believe that eD rates their amps at 12 volts, not 14.4 like hifonics.

oh yeah, plus the eD amp, and every other amp I've owned, does not make that high-pitched squeal.

at least you have experience with them, so your review is valid........i love my 1500d i've seen the birth sheets that state 13hundred somethin watts @1 ohm, but yes they do rate their amps at 14.4volts, i don't think there would be an audible difference from say 5-600rms compared to 750..........but try to find 1300watts for 250 shipped bnib..................

I think they turned to **** for the '05 models... I have heard nothing but praise for the 1500D, but the 1605D is utter crap.

When I got the amp, everyone told me how much they loved their 1500Ds, as well as their 1000Ds. I figured, hey, what could go wrong? I think they are just poorly designed now.

pwned.

seriously though, for the same price, (or less if you get a friendly discount,) the eD nINE.1 is just as powerful, clean-looking, and well-built. Not to mention the great tech support, they even have forums where people discuss problems, and the company responds with advice and such.

so back to the point of this thread.

buy eD if you want a cheap, well-built, sophisticated amplifiers.
