Only 1 Sub
Hey everybody, Ive seen a million 3rd gens with 2 subs in the back, but Im not a huge fan of huge bass, and I only want 1 sub.
I bought a kicker cvr 10" and an mtx 2301 amp already. Which would you guys recommend:
1) What are you talkin bout...never too much bass get another sub
2) Make a box that is relatively shallow and still cover the entire width of the well
3) Make a box similar to all the dual styles but basically cut it 1/2 vertically, so it extends all the way down into the well, but only takes 1/2 the width of the well
Thanks

I would go with option (2) personally.
You can have 2 subs and not have insane bass BTW. Its all in how you set things up.
Turning the gain down on the amp, or turning down the sub level on your deck will usually help tone down the bass. You can have good quality bass that does not overwhelm the rest of the sound, but rather just fills things in nicely.
Hope this helps.

Well, ive got the sub+amp right now, and the amp is pushing 300 watts, the gain is set really low because of the voltage of the pre-amp outs is only 2.5. I was leaning towards option 2, i think would would look much better than filling only 1/2 of the well

I vote #3... build it based on the speaker specifications, my Polk only needed .65cuft for the sound I wanted.. fits in the rear well nicely.
No chest thumping display showing it off though.. I'd rather no one but me know it's there... just the right amount of bass too... home stereo sound on the road...

Actually, i think that would be #2, what I meant by choice three is build a box flush with the carpeted part all the way down the well but only from one side of the well until where the hatch latches. My specs recommend between 1-3 ft^3, 1 ft^3 for "high impact" 3 ft^3 for SQ. But thanks, i didnt think to build a box at the bottom and cover it, that pretty fancy

IIRC, you can get about 1.1-ish cuft out of that lower well area.

I'd go with the half box option. Make sure you've got enough AirSpace. You don't really need two subs, it doesn't sound like you're entering any competitions soon...go with the single sub, build the half verticle box and have plenty of cargo room beside it. Make sure to put a grill on that thing!
