Entered my first stereo competiton

...and I got walked hard!.

Basically the way the comp worked was they split it up in categories. They went like this. single sub 1-600watts, single sub 601-unlimited, dual subs 1-600watts, dual subs 601-unlimited, Multiple subs 1-600watts, Multiple subs 601-unlimited.

I was part of the dual 601-unlimited. I came in last place with a shocking 138.4db. It was kinda funny actually because in the 1-600watt dual sub cat a guy in a white corvette came in last place with a 137.5db. He walked up to me and was like "Muscle Cars RULE!!!" and we gave each other a high five...ah guess you had to be there.

Anywho...I realized that I am running a nice setup however poor equipement. SO!!! time to waste some coin on some db drag material. Here is the battle plan for the new buildup

New Ported Box (tuned to 35hz)
2 JBL 12" 1600's
2 JBL 600.1 amps
another redtop battery under the hood for more power!!!

Hoping that this will at least get me up there. The best guy in my class hit 143.8db so I need to beat that score. I have until october 9th to make this happen. My buddy was the one who told me to go JBL as its the best bang for my buck and the cleanlyness of this system will be good for daily cruising however when I go for an SPL drag I can tune it to hammer hard.

So I figured I would post and let you all know where the stereo is heading. I will post pics once we get teh new box built and installed and carpeted.

I'd be more inclined to choose subs from Ascendant Audio, RE, Adire or some variety of the TC Sounds TC2 which is marketed under a bunch of brands.

the winner from my classification was running 2 kaption 12's and a 800 rms USA Amp.

The winner from my buddy's class (1-600watt dual sub) was running 2 JBL 15" 8ohm subs bridged down to 4ohm off of a KAC 929 kenwood. He hit 143.8.

Did you both simultaneously leap into the air as you slapped high fives?

I've found that the hard part is finding a spot for a pair of 4x12" ports, especially if you use aero-ports.

If I can find pics of the ported box I built for a pair of Rockford 12" HX2's, I'll post it. It was one of the more difficult boxes I've had to build, and it was entirely because of the ports.

I have a pair of 9Kv2s in my car ported but used a slot port. Granted I probably tune lower than most (30 htz) I do agree the hard part is finding a place to put the port. I managed 3.5x6x50ish (can't remeber for sure) Its just so often many people don't take into consideration how big a port needs to be and never take into consideration of the airspace it will take up. for my box the port space took up more than the subs needed for space.
