optima battery is too big for stock location
my optima yellow top 31 series is freaking HUGE!
it almost touches my radiator on one side, and almost touches the fender on the other. there would be plenty of room on the passenger side, but that would mean i'd have to move that vacuum canister, and my cold air intake to the other side.
theres an indentation where a smaller normal battery goes, mine is down inside the indentation on one side, and comes up out of it on the other, so it sits just a little crooked. it seems to be secure enough, but it looks like hell. is there a kit or some sort of mount or something i can buy or would it have to be custom?

My battery is on the pass side (350 TPI setup on a 91)
When I got my yellow top it was just slightly bigger, not like your making it sound.
Are you sure you got the right model?
I just took a big Fing hammer and modified my battery tray so it would sit completely flat and it still uses the stock clamp to keep it secure...

there are 3 different yellow tops, mine is top of the line, and biggest one, the 31 series. thing is massive lol. weighs about 60 pounds. front of my car actually sits a tad lower from it.
i know your battery is on the passenger side, you have a camaro. they're on the drivers side on firebirds, and there is a lot less room. surely there are some bird drivers out there running yellow tops?

looks a little ghetto but its actually in there pretty secure just sitting there, i've got after it, and hit a couple corners a little fast and it didnt budge. probably just leave it since im a lazy bastard for the most part.

I went to install my Optima the other day and had the same problem. I didn't have the big hoggin a$$ yellowtop tho, just the normal red top dual post. It was just a tad to wide, so I am gonna cut 1" out of the drivers side of the battery tray and flip it over to make it drop in, then weld it all up and paint. It'll work GREAT!!!!

maybe you can buy a larger aftermarket battery tray to sit over the stock indentation, bolt the new tray to the stock one and strap the battery down to the new tray. Or just get a flat piece of metal for that matter to lay across the indentation to give you a flat surface. I'd definitely strap everything down though whichever route you go. As for me, I found a nice new hiding place for mine

My yellow top fit fine but I did have to shape the retaining block to fit around one of the cells to tighten it down.

wow, my yellowtop fit PERFECTLY in my bird...
my old battery was actually too large, and the clamp would not hold it in place, causing several problems in the past..
anways, the optima was perfect, because there is a small lip around the bottom of the battery, which the clamp grabs pefectly...
if it doesn't fit right, you probably got the wrong battery...
btw, those orbital batteries are exactly the same as the yellowtops, but about $50 cheaper... sigh, I didn't know about them until after I bought my yellowtop.

I saw in your first pic that it was actually clamped down in there and I was gonna ask you how you did it.
