Good setup for house/techno music?

I only listen to house and techno and the 6x9's are not doing it for me. I don't need a huge booming setup I just want a little more kick. I know zero about car audio and I don't want to spend too much maybe only $300 to $400. THANKS

A powered Bazooka tube, either 8" or 10" will also work.

the basic setup you want is something like this:

a subwoofer for the beat.....
a amp to power the subwoofer.
a "filter" so that the bass ment for the subwoofer doesnt distort the smaller speakers
a "filter" so that the subwoofer only plays bass.. this is usually built into the amp.

and i also listen to "that crap" as its reffered to around here.

lol you guys are going to start thinking i'm on mikes payroll. however i just cannot recommend these soundsplinter rl-p speakers highly enough. if you listen to fast music like that, you can't beat it. it might go a bit over your budget however. one 12 is 235, and you'd want to spend 200-250 on an amp to run it. other little things will factor in though. probably figure at least 20-40 bucks for wiring, fuses, blocks, rings, that sort of stuff. if you're building your own box, 20 bucks for a sheet of mdf, and another 20 for supplies (wood glue, 1 3/4 inch drywall screws, silicone sealant, carpet)
if you're having someone else build your box, figure at least 80 or 100, probably more.

soundsplinter also has a lower end speaker called the rl-i that i have not heard, but i have not read anything bad about it, and i have heard subs based on the same driver design that sounded awesome, these will also respond very well to fast beats like that.
heres a couple of links for you to check out

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/f...p?showforum=41

http://www.soundsplinter.com

im not sure if kuruptgta is planning on ordering some of these, you'll have to get with him about it, but if he is you can get the rl-p's for 215 each ordering more than one. (those prices include shipping btw)

Thanks for the replies. I already have all the stuff to build a box.
I just do not know much about the car audio brands. For my pro-audio equipment I only use electrovoice eliminator series pa's, all powered by crown amps. These companies do not make car audio stuff unfortunately. I am gonna try the sound splinters.

MrDude_1- Not only do I listen to that CRAP its paying for my car audio. I think I have a big enough dj system that now I will spend it on my car. I have a regular job so anytime I make some money dj'ing I spend it on my system. Would you like a CD? PM me and I will send you one.

No doubt if crown made car audio amps they would dominate the industry. I just don't want to by the wrong brands. I don't need a huge system but I do want one that will last. I don't want to be replacing stuff all the time. I am considering the soundsplinters. How about some amp recommendations?

Also I have BBE sonic maximizers for all my systems. Is there anything like these made for car audio?

were you looking at the rl-i or the rl-p? the rl-p can handle gobs of power, like 1000 watts daily. the rl-i, im not sure, i think about half that, maybe less. i've got about 700 watts on each of my 12's and they pound. im using an elemental designs nine.1 amp, rated at 1200x1 but most put out close to 1500 watts once you get 14.4 volts on them. those are nice, and fairly cheap, i paid 300 shipped for mine.
i know you were trying to keep it around 400 though, and if you got a single rl-p 12, (they dont make 10's just 12's and 15's) that would be 235 shipped. for an amp, i dont know much about smaller mono amps, but i think an orion 300d or 600d is what you'd be looking for. can find the 300d's for 175 online, maybe a little less, and the 600d's for a bit more.
i have a buddy thats an orion dealer, and i may be able to get you one of those cheaper than that, id have to ask him how much cheaper.

My neighbors hate me.

I checked out the soundsplinters and I think those are too much for what I want. I think I want one 10" sub. My ears take a beating daily so I don't need that much in my car. I also don't want any trouble with the popo's. They are all jerks around here and love to give tickets. It's a small town and thats all they have to do. I think maybe a pair of 8's would be fine too. I have to say no to the basslink I like seperate componants. I gonna do some more research but any more input will be great.

In my old 89 GTA I had one JL Audio 10 running off of an MTX amp that pushed 150-200watts, I can't remember which. I too spin house and trance music and that setup was _perfect_. I had Infinity Reference series all around just running off of the head unit and never had any problems.

yeah even 1 rl-p will slam, especially the 15.

http://www.soundsplinter.com/rli_ign...r_drivers.html

maybe one of these? they're not at all just for "loud, boomy" cars, they're some of the best sound quality subs you can buy for a car, and easily the best for the money. believe me the rl-i's handle more than the 200 watts they are rated for, i've heard of people putting 400 to them daily with no problems. very, very quick speakers, great for fast beats.
alot cheaper than the rl-p too, and wont need such an expensive amp to run it. could spend 200-225 on an amp, and stay under 400 total. can't forget anything other incidentals though, wiring, ring terminals, speaker box and carpet.

some of the infinities also have good spl and respond pretty quick u may wanna look into one of those....but probably any 10 sub w/ out alot of excursion will work pretty well!

Check out my thread below and see if you can get the same deal that I got through sonicelectronix. At first I thought I got ripped of on those subs but they pound and sound very good. Nice and crisp, clear, and able to go deep. I also got some Infinity Reference 310a amps for 79 through price matching with cardomain.com and they are really impressing me.

why does a sub have to have low excursion to respond quick? my 12's have a 24.6mm xmax, and i've never seen them play anything even vaguely resembling sloppy bass, no matter what kind of music i play through them.

It would be a good idea to get more smaller subs (2 or 3 8's) as opposed to 2 10's or 1 12. They will respond a lot faster, but usually don't play the deeper notes as well. The smaller subs can change direction more easily - of course this is just for comparison among subs of the same brand and model line. There are many exceptions. I wouldn't avoid a sub due to a high Xmax.
If I was in the market for subs, I'd probably go with Adire Audio.

10's are the best compromise between woofer control and the ability to play deeper notes. Some sealed 12's are also good, but the bigger the woofer, the muddier the midbass can get.

Earlier in the topic, NoItsNotForSale asked about BBE in car and commented about how cool Crown car amps would be....Alpine decks feature BBE enhancement, probably not as nice as the PA pieces, but it is there. Also, Crown does make car amps. They are expensive amd are sold under the JBL brand (with "Crown" right on the logo). Crown, JBL, and Infinity are all owned by the same company. Crown actually makes the most powerful car amp on the market right now (6000 watts RMS....and it costs about a dollar per watt). Just an fyi.

^^^ Hit both nails on the head Harmon Kardon owns JBL, Crown, etc. and they have automotive speakers under the JBL label, and I think HK label too (can't remember for sure). And the only company to have BBE processing is some of the Alpine HU's.

As for the subs, a buddy of mine has the 2005 model year Alpine Type-R 12's, and they sound so awesome. You have to make sure that you're getting the 2005 model year tho, b/c 2004 and lower is different design/rating. He's got the dual 12's in a sealed box, and it sounds the best out of all my car buddies yet. I know they have 10" but I've never seen 8" from them. IMO, if you get one 10" and make the smallest box that Alpine recommends, it should sound really good, and very tight.

Really?! All I've seen is the Alpine ones. It's actual BBE - not just some generic form of sound-processing??

What BBE do you run on your PA equipment? I used to work at a DJ/Karaoke store and that's how I came across BBE. Night and Day hardly begins to describe it haha. A buddy of mine that still works there does some DJ'ing and has an 882 (I think) on his HOME stereo haha. Dude has like 3 or 4 BBE's total.

Hopefully they'll come out w/ a 7.1 or even 5.1 BBE, now that I would buy (I have 5.1 in my room on my laptop, but I want to go 7.1). Otherwise I'll have to get like 3x BBE's and rack them. Maybe like an old 362SW to run Sub and Center (separate channels), than 2x 482i's to run f/b?

Hell, a surround BBE for automotive would be even cooler b/c I want to run 5.1 in my car.

I have 4 of the old style 482's and they are awesome. They give 8db of extra headroom. On a 2000 watt pa system an extra 8db is alot. I have been pondering ebaying my 482's and getting the newer units. Unfortunately I'm a good ways away from a car audio place but I hope to take a trip soon to test out a few decks.

It's a "Sonic Maximizer" and the difference in clarity of sound between BBE and Non-BBE is unbelievable. You should try to find a DJ store in your area and ask if they can Demo it for ya Or even a car audio store that carries H/U's w/ BBE technology

Am I allowed to post the web addy of the company I used to work for so he can check it out? Might do him better than making a long trip out to a shop b/c they ship stuff out to non-Chicagoland customers (hell, they even ship stuff to some Chi-Town customers hahah)
