The idea has been tossed around a few times but no one has actually done it. Here's another thread. People were not very receptive and besides, our cars wouldn't be a very good SPL competitor.
I'm unaware of where that project ended up and I am not aware of anyone that completed it.

ya because completly blocking your view on the back of your car is cool....I guess whatever floats your boat.
If you can do this and safely see on the highway then
Not to mention its probably illegal...

yea sounds like the wall idea isnt' too good...
some guys recommended maybe like a single hi end woofer, like a single DD audio 9500 15" or single RE MT 15"..so we'll see...
I was thinking abotu just boxing out the rear seat area, and downfire the sub, making the sub totally hidden, it would look just like a carpeted bench, and it would match the rest of the vehicle...

I am not sure about it being illegal, but it probably isn't smart to block the entire area behind you.. at least leave a window back there lol.. mirrors take car of the rest.. as far as the rest of the stuff it would really depend on how the thing was made, suare/round subs. off sets, extra

And with down-firing subs you may run into the problem of surround-stress and more importantly poor sound dispersion, most down-firing subs in cars sound very muffled and muddy

thats because people put them close to flat on the carpet...of course you are gonna get surround wearing when the thing is bouncing off the carpet! the reason they are muffled is because the sound goes through the carpet before they get to your ears, the carpet dampens them, it takes room to go boom, when you put them a half inch off the floor, there simply isn't enough air readily available to compress...i'm gonna make like a nice 6-8" gap, and the area its gonna downfire into will be totally enclosed except one side with MDF...it'll essentially look like another port, well kind of...you get the point...
