Let me say those horns are loud as f*ck, however they require alot of work and routing to get them to work properly. Having personally installed one in a '02 neon dubbed "general leon" (lee + neon= Leon). The car was a college joke we did orange car, confederate flag the whole bit, the biggest pain in the *** was doing the horn by far. Make sure you have ALOT of room to install it.

I had that horn in my old firebird. I didn't find it particularly difficult to install. There's a power wire and 5 air tubes. The only part that's time consuming is figuring out where to mount all 5 tubes plus the compressor.

I believe that only one company makes the horns, so no matter who you buy them from, you'll get the same thing.

Only problem is, unfortunately some people have the way way way wrong opinion about the southern cross, and they'll itch to smash the windows or t-tops. Heck I was once thinking about buying one of those vinyl graphics thingies for the rear window, an absolutely huge southern cross

Trust me some people get really offended, especially after some drinks, I almost got my wife into a fight one day with someone, because the way she is (prejudice etc etc), 4th of July and I had raised both flags

I installed the jcwhitney dixie horns in a sunfire. So, it should be able to fit in a thirdgen. The thing didn't seem too impressive to me. I think i even ran thicker wires to it than what was provided in the kit. I think I had the equilvalent of 14 gauge wire. The horns just didn't sound fast enough. I got some spare 8 ga wire laying around, maybe i'll try putting that in, if i get really bored. Have to be really bored to work on someone else's car again.

They were racing hart 17 inch rims with toyo proxies. we pirated them off a buddies car. I can never remember the exact size. But the were REALLY low pro.

haha sorry I don't....but I do remember seeing a whole bunch of sites and their replicas. Had lots of info on things like the push bars, confederate flag ec.....I'm sure they have to have information on the horn somewhere.

my friend jason has one on his car... lol.

its a orange camaro.... as a joke before the new movie came out, i got some static cling 01 numbers and put them on his door... lol.

anyway, as long as the horn uses a compressor, airtubes, and actual horns, it'll sound right.
it only sound like crap if its one of the speaker ones.

I agree. Also, the plastic tab mounts are more brittle than you'd think. Otherwise a nice horn. Chicks don't seem to dig it as much as they should, though.

I like to clear up a few things if not to late.

The first horn was actually bought off a group of kids the guys stopped and bought the horn, of course the kids sold it a lot higher than what JCWhitney did.

If you do a google search you even find the correct kind of horn. Walco or Welco whatever the name is the most common most popular brand, can be bought at jcwhitney. Also search ebay for the brand and that will provide you with at least a sound sample and can still order from whitney.

Installation isn't that hard, the way i did it was used a 3 way switch, on-off-on, which one on would allow for the facotry horn, the other on would be the dixie, the off turned both off. It was simply spliced into the horns power wire at the factory horn system. The proper way would be one simple on off switch and a relay.

Re: general lee air horn
I don't know if any one else has ahd this problem but, on my Dixie horn when it gets cold outside, the compressor doens' want to blow the horns. I hear it winding and it makes a gurlge sound. after about 5 min the compressor I guesse warms up and slightly starts blowing the horns. any reason as of why this is

Re: general lee air horn
if you're not from the south no need to buy the horn, it could get you in trouble. i know guys around here that would be highly upset if they heard a car with a dixie horn with NY plates. just dont make sense. but to each their on i guess. not meaning to offend. anyway my buddies get theirs from JCW. yeh haw

Re: general lee air horn
I know it's not the air pressure and that it's the temp. cuz when it's warm out like in the spring or summer, it ALWAYS blows right. It's only when it gets cold out side like in the fall and winter

Higher temps cause air to expand, increasing air pressure....
