Anyone heard of these Boston subs or this Kicker amp?

Model 10.4lf by Boston. The magnet on these is HUGE!! These weigh in at about 10lbs each! The basket isn't steel either, and is all one piece.

They look very expensive. I got them in a sub box with the Kicker amp shown today.

Anyone know how old they are or how good they are? The box was professionally made, and they used 12AWG wire for the speakers!

From what I read it's a pretty good sub. I would run them if I had them.

As for the kicker, it's good for 65 x 2 @ 4 ohms and is two ohms stable in stereo. No idea about what it puts out @ 2 ohms stereo and what it is bridgeable to.

I would call that a pretty good find but I would step up to a bigger amp for the subs.

Hehe...I had that amp and traded it in for a new 654xi (same amp, but 4-channel). It's probably circa 1998 and lasts forever. The rating for the 654xi is 130W x 4 @ 14.4V @ 2 Ohms and IS 2-Ohm stable. I can only assume the 652xi is the same thing but limited to two channels instead of four. The only problems I ever had are these:

1.) I had my 654xi set up with the front two channels running my mids/highs and the back two bridged to 260W x 1 @ 14.4 @ 4 Ohms. On the absolute hardest bass hits, my particular subs' impedance dropped too low and put the amp into protection mode for ~2 seconds. Didn't happen often, but was irritating when it did.

2.) After seven years, the amp would mysteriously turn off and the protection LED would be red for seconds to minutes at a time. I cracked open the amp & found a bank of high power resistors which had cold solder joints and had created enough heat to slightly burn the PCB. I had to remove the resistors and scrape the outside of the leads clean and resolder them to the board -- problem fixed.

All in all. Nice amp, especially for one of Kicker's lower models. Kicker had better quality then.

Those are EXCELLENT sounding subwoofers. Their only drawback is that they tend to be a bit fragile. I had a friend blow a half-dozen of them. Those are considered some of the best sounding subs money could buy 10 years ago, and I think they still sound very good compared to most of today's subs. If you ever want to sell those, let me know.

The amp was Kicker's "entry level" line from around 7-8 years ago. They were solid performers for the money, but certainly not up to the level of their ZR stuff.

These subs were in a big box, but it was custom fit for a Nissan 300ZX... so I can't use it.

Anyone know the box req's for these?

give them about a cube or 1.25 cubes each, or contact Boston Acoustics for information. The Boston website probably has the manuals online.

Hmm, I can't find any info on these on their site. How old are they?
